IC-705 ???
« on: April 25, 2020, 12:54:38 PM »

When this darn thing will be up on the shelves of HRO and other establishments?

Since last fall we've heard early 2020, then March 2020, then April 2020???

May 2020 is almost here, are they still waiting FCC approval process or is it a shipment issue or manufacturing delay due to COVID19 crisis???

Also I wish HRO release the info how many pre-reservations they received for IC-705? 100, 1000, 10000... ???

So, what the heck is going on, does anybody have an idea?

Icom is not providing any revised estimated availability date due to ongoing uncertainty.  Their announcement is on the Icom Japan website.

Thank you for that 4/6/2020 article but I wonder what does "later in the year" means?

Because they are saying it was going to be available by the end of March 2020, so due to Covid19 there will be a delay and product released later...

May 2020 is later than March 2020, or July is later too, May be December 2020?

I assume a product announced to be released in the US market by the end of March 2020 has to be already in the production line in January and February since Icom does not work "we'll build ours when you order one" like a fresh hamburger order.

The whole world began to close down by Mid March. I don't believe, ICOM had nothing in their warehouses ready by March 10th for a product to be released to the US market in 10-15 days after.
Do you?

One of the dealers in England states that the ICOM 705 will be released in July. Announcement at 2:30 mark of this video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pXr9xC16-A

"Later in the year" appears in ARRL's article but Icom itself doesn't state that:

Yeah, the article is an apology and explains that parts to complete the ic-705s have not arrived, there is no estimate when they can resume building the radios.

There's also not much information on some of the production specs for the radio.  Apparently a number of final features are still unknown to personnel at Icom America yet.  Guess we'll just have to wait until things get closer to normal.

Maybe Elecraft will beat them to market with a KX4...

I looked this up and first thought was it is a removable control panel radio like the yaesu ft-857.
then I dug deeper and found it to be really compact and qute.
the optional backpack is nice, too.

Yeah, the article is an apology and explains that parts to complete the ic-705s have not arrived, there is no estimate when they can resume building the radios.

What I tried to highlight in my OP is this:

- Icom planned to release IC-705 by the end of March 2020.
- Our country and other countries were not closed until Mid March almost,

So, my question is do you guys believe that a company like Icom did not build and shipped a single unit of their most innovative, latest portable product to be released in USA market prior to 10-15 days of it's release date?

That sounds like a "no brainer" answer to me?  Unless Icom executives were all aware of an upcoming closure of a country like USA due to a pandemic in advance..

What can I say? They must've an unbeliavable foresight !

I mean if I am going to release my most recent and anticipated model of product to a market like US where I expect thousands and thousands of sales, I will not be waiting to manufacture and ship those products to that market 2-3 days prior to release date...

At least 2-3 weeks ago it'll be all shipped to my main distributor and stocked their regional warehouses ready to be distribute in a moments notice.

But now we're told that IC705s still on the production line or not even shipped yet?

Does anybody know, did they even received the FCC Approval yet? If they did, when that happened?

Just wondering!

If Elecraft were to come out with a KX4, the price would be at the very least twice that of IC-705 but the performance would also be twice as good.

Don't forget that Icom must have working radios technically evaluated and certified for FCC Rules compliance before anything can be imported into the USA.  This may explain why the United Kingdom is heaing a date in July but USA is not committed yet.  Icom has also said that the parts critically needed by Japan to build the first run were not available from China.  From international news reports, major suppliers in China are just now restarting their factories for production.

It would have a built in ATU as an option too.  ;)

I'm guessing Icom might not know when any closer to what they've already stated.

I have no problems with that.
