yaesu ft 950 panadapter
« on: April 30, 2020, 09:19:16 PM »

So I was going to go to Dayton to buy a new radio, then comes covid-19......
Since i wasn't going and had a boatload of time on my hands, I decided to read up on all the models when I got the bright Idea to see how much better a new radio would receive vs my old FT-950, what I found was my ft-950 best sensitivity is .15 with 2nd amp on and the best radio among the top three, Icom 7610, Yaesu FTDX101D and Kenwood 890S is Kenwood with .1
Since I really don't need a 2nd receiver I started questioning if I need a new radio or just add a panadapter to my existing radio??
My questions are:
Am I missing something other than a panadapter by keeping the FT-950?
and are those SDR Panadapters any good and if so any recommendations

Thanks for the Help

As a follow up, I decided I wanted a new Radio, HRO dropped the price of the Yaesu FTDX101D $300 (a sign from the radio gods)

Still working out the kinks with Ham radio deluxe interface, But the radio is Magnificient better than my FT950 would ever be.

Now the fun begins learning how to use it

Thanks
