CAT Mode to Kenwood TS-690S with DSP100 attached
« on: May 03, 2020, 07:26:12 AM »

Hi All,
I have a Kenwood TS-690S, which i mostly use for Digitalmodes on 80 and 40 meters. I was lucky enough to spot a DSP100 available in a local 2nd hand dealer and couldnt resist the temptation to buy it knowing how realvitley rare they are.
I hooked everything up and audo/cw are better, not had any QSO's to check what my output is like, but i'm expecting it to be similar increase in performance.
I have however encounctered a problem, as I use digtial modes and CAT/Audio control from the TS-690S, the only way i could get this to 'work' with the DSP100 attached was to put the rig into 'DATA CLONE' mode, where it would beep and my apps intermitantly loose their connection (COM Port not found).

For now I have taken the DSP off, but would greatly appreciate if anyone else has used a DSP100 and software which uses the CAT port at all on how they acheived reliable results.

Many thanks in advance / 73's

Just Replying to my own thread as this may help people searching. At the moment I have the components require to make a modified adaptor. The other references I could find with people having the same issue are :-

DSP & HRD (CAT) Problem

I've since been able to source a IF-232C and am making a convertor bus from 9-PIN DIN to 24 PIN RS232-C. The support from XGGComms has been amazing though, with sending of schematics, recommendations on how to change pin-outs,etc. I am solving QRM issues first before plugging the DSP back and also have the ATU to investigate as well. Hopefully should be this week, but will get some more QRM issues (some electrical devices buzzing) sorted first as it doesnt seem good to have a DSP when local QRM is still an issue (Devices identified, Filters/mains chokes en-route).
