ERC-M & Yaesu G-5500 Rotor control noise
« on: May 05, 2020, 02:52:04 PM »

I am using an ERC-M USB controller to steer my G-5500 rotors and whenever PST rotor adjusts my antennas I get some kind of noise that takes out my receive sensitivity. The control cables that go up to the roof tower are fully shielded. I have not been able to locate the exact cause of the noise but I thought maybe someone out there may have experienced this.

Thanks,

Dave

Are not the motors in the G-5500 DC brush type?

It could be noise from the USB cable or the ERC-M power supply. Try wrapping a few turns of each around a 31 mix toroid core.

The ERC-M is actually powered by the USB port/cable. I'll try the torroid trick and maybe I,ll see if there is a way to provide better grounding for the rotor cables as well.

Thanks all,
