Alinco DX-SR8 A very noisy radio...Why?
« on: May 07, 2020, 03:33:42 PM »

I purchased a new Alinco DX-SR8 and it seems to me this radio is very extremely noisy..... I have grounded things..turned off things throughout the house that i thought would give me problems..... For the life of me i just cant figure it out..... My last resort would be to shut all the power down in the home and run the radio off a battery.... Im located out in the country far from far from all the hectic noise so i thought?  Completely baffeled in Pennsylvania??.....
....Any ideas would be greatly apreciated....Thank you'

Locating a source of noise can be a challenge.

Unlikely that the source of the noise is in your transceiver. More likely your antenna system is a
contributor. You might describe this including your common mode reduction technique(s).

"Grounding things" is a very general sort of notion. A functional RF ground can be difficult to
implement.

Might be helpful if you were to characterize the noise as much as you can: type of noise, time of day, frequencies involved, etc.

A good tool for locating noise can be an ordinary portable AM radio. If the noise is evident on that then you can walk around your house and its environs to find where the noise is worst. I have used
a portable SW radio to locate noise sources at specfic frequencies in ham bands.

ARRL has publications on identifying and dealing with RFI. Looking thoughtfully through this forum should also help your investigation.
