Best Replacement ear pads for Heil ICM Boom/Headset
« on: May 12, 2020, 07:06:58 AM »

I have a pair of Heil ICM Boom/Headphones that work fantastic on my IC7610 and 7300, before these radio's I used the Pro6 models and have always enjoyed the voice quality on receive but threw the years I have found that the ear pads suck after about an hour of use, they just are not comfortable and yes I did try there more expensive set but they were no better. I have a pair of Sony MDR 7506 headphones and those I can wear almost all day, very light on the ears, they are also very good in the voice region as well but no boom mic. I have also tried the Yamaha headset which are comfy but the sound quality is more for music than voice but there boom mic was ok.
There are a few companies who make replacement ear pads like Brainzwave Audio has anyone out there replaced there ear pads with this companies pads, I would like to keep the Heil sound quality on the RX side along with a great EC mic but there stock pads just plain suck and I think that Heil is just acting like an importer for them these days, for what they charge they should be more on the comfy side if were going to wear them allot.

wow nobody seem to like the Heil Boom/Headset, well I ordered the Brainwave Audio oval Pro Stock perforated replacement pads for the AKG series headphones which are 105mm high and 84mm wide, the Heils measure 100mm high and 88mm wide so when watching there video it looks like they might fit but should make wearing these things for hours on end much more comfy plus the perforated should help them breath so you will not be sweating with them on as much. Even at $30 added to the ICM Pro set still cheaper and lighter than the ultra Pro Heil set.

In case anyone is reading these new ear pads are fantastic, you don't seem to sweat as much and they are soo comfy I could wear them for hours. The were a tight fit on the Heil Pro IC's but make the headphone part feel like a few hundred dollar pair of AKG's used in studio work back in the day! Acoustically they are very transparent and add to better fidelity performance, well worth the added $30!

Heil has a few "boom/headphones" with the iC element. What is the exact model name of the ones you're talking about? I have the newest version of the "ProSet iC" (not the "Elite" model", and am interested in larger ear pads. Is Brainwave Audio the website? Thanks.

Those are the same ones I have ProSet IC version, they are the same as the Pro 6 but the IC element that sounds great on almost any Icom radio but really work FB on the 7300/7610. The Earpads I found on Amazon and there the ones they sell as the Pro Stock model Perforated PU in black, they replace a Audio Technic ATH50MX which are oval pads, sorry I don't know why I stated AKG headphones but there made to replace the AT ones. The Heil pads pop off, they are not like the older pads that you slide off but the new pads slide on and as I said they fit tight which is a good thing. You can buy them direct from Hong Kong for a cheaper price but I assumed shipping might have been more plus Amazon get them to you fast and if not happy easy return. I also up graded a pair of Sony MDR 7506 earpads for another $20, thos sony lick the crap out of Heil Pro 3 headphones that sell for the same price and if I go back to using my 781 mic someday I would use the Sony headphones.
BTW the new earpads are memory foam as well. I don't know what the story is and were Heil imports his stuff but he should look into trying to set up his current line with more comfort, to me that is almost as important as how they work and sound. I hope that helps Bob and if you have any more QST's just e mail me I am good on QRZ.

I also have the Heil ProSet-with the iC element- (not the Elite model), and decided to follow up on KX2T's advice. MAJOR difference in comfort and fit. They cover completely over my ears, very soft memory foam, and I can wear my glasses without any pinching at all. The ones that came on the headset weren't "terrible" (better than the Elite model I had before), but the material and padding was harder, didn't totally cover my ears, and after a while pinched my glasses against my head.

The exact pad model is the Brainwavz "Prostock ATH M-Series" (oval shaped). They come in five different materials, I bought the "Perforated PU" style. Absorbs any sweat better. You can buy them through Amazon ($30.00), but I purchased mine direct from Brainwavzaudio.com, on sale for $21.00. They don't fit in the same grooved mounting of the original pads (they just snap off), but they wrap over the outside of the earpiece for a nice, snug attractive fit.

If you're using these boom mic/headphones, I strongly recommend them. You won't be sorry. Many hours of contesting without pain or fatigue.
