The Romanian River Navigation Society - NFR - was established in 1890 in accordance with the High Royal Decree issued by King Carol I on maritime and river navigation in the Kingdom of Romania. Until then, river navigation was a quasi-monopoly of Austro-Hungarian and German companies. The start was made with 5 tugs, 45 barges and a passenger ship.
In 1920 NFR had 7 long-haul passenger ships with sleeping cabins, of which one ship with luxury cabins, 12 local passenger ships, 22 tugs, 180 barges, 12 oil tanks and 28 auxiliary ships, serving 16 local and 4 international passenger lines. Navigation was carried out on the Danube and on the rivers Prut, Dniester, Tisza and Bega Canal.
In 1947, the communist regime at the express order of the USSR abolished the NFR Society. At the same time, the Romanian Navigation Company SRD S.A. was abolished. where he also owned shares in the Romanian state.

On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the founding of the NFR, PRO-CW-Club has instituted and is issuing a series of diplomas, which are addressed to all radio amateurs. The regulations for obtaining them can be found at:
