Need Help to Program Kenwood TH-D7a with Windows 7 Laptop
« on: May 16, 2020, 10:06:44 AM »

Hello,

Guys, I am in great need of assistance to be able to reprogram this radio using software. I have the proper cable the PG-4W that I use to be able to program with and do APRS years ago. I would love to be able to properly reprogram this radio and put it back into service, doing the whole thing without a computer is more than I want to tackle as I have a lot I want to put into the radio for use.

Since I can not find a older computer with a serial db-9 port this is what I have undertaken so far.

I bought usb to db-9 serial cable. I installed the drivers and they were to new, so I back dated the Prolific drivers to version 3.2.0.

I checked the ports under Device Manager in Windows 7 and it shows no errors. However I am not sure of the port communication settings that may be required such as baud rate, flow control, etc. I have worked with differnent settings, no combination of settings has worked.

I am also unsure what if any steps need to be setup in the radio for it to receive information.

I am seeking assistnace with both port settings and setting the radio to recieve data. I have researched and worked on this without luck.

Also if you know of something I have not thought of I am open to your ideas.

Thanks in advance for your kind assistance and time to help me with this issue.

Looks like the Kenwood software will not run under Win7.

There used to be a program named "Link700" that i used ...

The safest and most reliable option is to purchase the software AND cable from RTSystems ...

There is a one-page "quick programming guide" for the 'D7 - scroll down on this page to find it ...

And there are a dew YouTube videos: for programming general APRS, for programming for working the ISS' packet station, and general ops. (Don Arnold's videos are great!)
