Hey did you look up my QTH? You described it pretty well:

Nice deep well (no water bill)
Septic system (no poop pay)
LP tank (I heat with wood)
I have to take my own garbage out
Got me some chickens
Wire in the trees

No restrictions, 8 acres, 900+ elevation, modern house. Cost less than the average HOA tract house.

I thought the commercial was pretty funny.

C'mon - lighten up there folks! It's just a stupid TV commercial.

All I'm saying is it's a bit more stupid than it is funny.

It's a parody of an imaginary HOA. Anecdotally, I'm sure we've all read about the Gladys Krebbs type of neighbor. The type who peeks in windows and is in everyone else's business. People like that DO exist. Of course not every HOA is like that. I will say though that when I do talk with people who live in HOA's it's not unusual to hear them complaining about some neighbor who either doesn't follow the rules or isn't as perfect as they are, when it comes to following the rules. Some people like to complain. For some they see it as a healthy replacement for a sex life. :)

Doesn't the post office specify mail box height?  Isn't taking out the mailbox vandalism?  Seems like in real life the HOA vigilante would be the one in trouble.

I'm tired of seeing this commercial.  Seems rather stupid to me.
Yes.
Yes.
It’s not stupid.  It’s making fun of HOA’s and ridiculous regulations.
