Keep in mind if you think you'll be putting it on the used market some time in the future, doing things like smearing putty inside the radio as a modification, or soldering/unsoldering *anything* inside a modern day radio will reduce the resale value.

(not that I've been participating in the used ham gear market lately, but a few years ago any modification to rigs produced after about 1970 made it worthless to me because of my experience with "backyard mechanics" doing stupid things that were nearly impossible to undo.)

I guess it pays ultimately to know who has owned what.  I can understand this viewpoint, but at the same time, my goal - in the spirit of amateur radio - is to make it mine; to fix a bug or "scratch an itch" simply because I can.  I honestly have no plans on selling my 7300, but if I did, I'd certainly make it clear that this or that mod has been done and why it was done.

Just as an aside: I make it a point to do clean, neat, professional work with everything, even if it's just for myself.  I have a luthierie background - that pride in the end result is a bit of a necessity there.  So if anyone buys anything from me, don't be afraid - I don't bite :)
