Was it eskip on 20m
« on: June 17, 2020, 08:55:34 PM »

A few days ago I got on 20m around 5pm edt from my with in NH to bark some cq's as I like to do and everything was short. Many from ny, nj area and even got MAine which was a first for me on 20m. Large pileups for about 2 hours. Just curious what propagation phenom this was? Didn't think E happened on 20 but just read a post where someone mentioned 20 eskip on ft8 recently.
Either way was a fun 2 hours with  most contacts in one sitting for this usual ragchewer. John K1jrf

There has been a lot of intense E skip lately.  I've worked over a dozen stations on 6M that are located in LAX, OR, and WA.  As my 4 el beam is only 20 ft high, it is likely to be triple hop E skip rather than two 2000 km hops.

Short haul E Sip on HF is a yearly occurrence around this time and into August. You might even catch some Aurora on HF thru 2M.

Sporadic-E does indeed effect the mid-HF frequencies too from simple shielding of normal F1/F2 propagation modes all the way to rare NVIS on 20 or 15 m. During FD I was working stations on 15 m skywave that were less than 100 miles from me here in north Texas! It is something to keep the higher frequencies interesting while we are at the rock bottom of the solar cycle.

I wouldnt call it NVIS but just regular intense short E Skip which is very common when the sun cooperates. Ive experienced it since Cycle 19.
