SDR Dongle
« on: July 24, 2020, 09:16:49 AM »

Does anyone know of a SDR dongle that will plug and play with Windows 10 USB 3.0.  My  RT820 dongle which worked great on a old Windows 7 machine I upgraded to Windows 10 with USB 2.0 and Windows 10.   It does not work with my new Windows 10 machine, with USB 3.0.  I tried the work around using zig zag and it messed up my USB port which drives my USB to serial comm port.  I had to do a recovery of my Windows 10 machine to get the USB ports working.   Is there a USB 2.0 to 3.0 converter?  Thanks Steve K4JPN

I have had good results with the SDR Play (origional) on my Win 10 desktop and Win 10 laptop. I too did damage to my Win 10 operating system in the laptop with Zadig trying to get a dongle working.

RTL-SDR Blog v2 and v3, other no-name RTL-SDR dongles, RSP1, RSP1A, AirSpy HF+, AirSpy Discovery, all working or worked fine on a Win 10 USB3 HP desktop.

With the RTL-SDR based dongles, the problem is usually with Zadig. One may need to run it again after Win updates.

For the next time: create a System Restore Point before installing drivers, or questionable software, it's easy: https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-use-system-restore-in-windows-2626131

Finally got around to trying the zadig on my Windows 10 after creating a recovery point.   Installed zadig with my RTL SDR SDR Dongle and it works great.  Better yet, it did not mess up my other USB ports that I use for mouse, keyboard and USB to Com Ports.  73 Steve K4JPN
