Thus far, it appears there is a total of 1. And he moved anyway so a net zero. An interesting statistic compared with the 472 people who read this thread.

I’m not bad at math but correct me if I miscalculated - it seems 0/472 is a pretty small percentage. Even if we double it...

Notwithstanding the propensity of some to embellish their position on this forum, I offer a tertiary response to Gary's original post for some amusement:

About 15 years ago, while a resident in a CA HOA, I received a notice of violation of the HOA rules.  The root cause: my wife planted a non-authorized rose bush that was not on their 'approved' list of rose species (roses all look the same to me). We had 30 days to mitigate that violation or be fined.

So, the rose was removed and we placed the house up for sale the next month.

BTW, the HOA never did find any of my stealth antennas...

Busted for an unauthorized rose bush :(. As a HOA dweller myself, seems kinda petty. But, caveat emptor. If it's not in an approved list of plants, it is what it is. You did what you felt was right...you moved. IMO, it seems like a rather radical decision over replacing a rose bush. Either it was a matter of principle, or you weren't too choked up with the house/living conditions in the first place. But, it was your choice, and good for you. Hope you're enjoying your new digs (and can erect some decent antennas).

At least you were able to get on the air while you lived there ;). Must have hidden your antennas pretty well.

I think the real point to my story is that HOA's can tenaciously limit a ham's ability to put up antennas but through some creativity, a ham can still enjoy the hobby without too much inconvenience.  Case in point - I have 237 confirmed countries on 40M while having lived only in HOA communities without ever having any problems from the HOA or adjoining neighbors.  Like yourself, one can adapt to their housing environment and still enjoy the hobby.  But, those looking for an all-or-nothing antenna accommodation in a CC&R environment will, most likely, end up with nothing.

I couldn't agree with you more. For the innovative and reasonable minded, living in an HOA is not a ham radio death sentence. An all-or-nothing approach is not the answer.

It is interesting, though, that many hams feel it is OK to violate CCRs by erecting hidden antennas when they are technically not allowed by their personally agreed to contract. Yet somehow it is reprehensible to some of these same people that a federal law might be enacted to specifically allow hidden antennas.

Hmmm....

Far more reprehensible is someone making a judgment about what other people do in their community.
No one (and least of all you) have any concept of how many hams violate anything. Absent quantifying that set, it’s a non-issue. Meanwhile, the count indicates 527 views and no one is complaining and virtually none have been “busted”. That is, no one is complaining except the same one or two characters who don’t live in an HOA.

Your concept of meaningful statistics is telling.

eHam alone is filled with stories of hams hiding antennas from their HOA. There are books written on the topic. To deny that this is happening is a red hearing at best.

And please notice I never said anything about complaining. Cheating may be a better context.

Let’s review - of the 500+ people reading this, how many have had a problem with enforcement of any antenna limits?

Books about UFOs abound too - does that clarify your “hearing” [sic] color?

So your assertion is that all hams that live in an HOA with antenna restrictions obtain permission to install their (hidden) antennas?

Again take not that I said nothing about "problems". I am specifically calling out hams that have hidden antennas to thwart their CCR restrictions. You are not one of those so by your previous assertions you have no voice in this discussion.
