The Dalton, GA hamfest is on for Feb 27, 2021.  No Dayton but no tailgate either.  Worth attending.

What a perfect weapon the Chi-Coms made. So good you do not even know you have been attacked. More to come.
Indeed. So perfect that they can use it again and again. Kung Flu fear low? No problem here comes wave #2 and the new strain.

In the 90's, the Baltimore Amateur Radio Club had a very large hamfest on Fathers day every year at the Timonium fairgrounds.  This attracted not only hams, but also computer sales and computer parts companies.  It was huge and made real money for the club.
Unfortunately, that is all past.  Computers are sold as commodities now and the dealers are Best Buy and Amazon.
We in the club decided to merge our hamfest (on a farm now) with other clubs with other interests in 2020, like Model Airplanes, or any other single interest club.  But you know what happened in 2020, so the hamfest was canceled.
So looking with high hopes to this coming Father's Day.

The recent vaccines use a totally new way to combat the CHINESE FLU and any new versions can be addressed very quickly.

Indeed, Carl. Viruses mutate, it's what they to naturally.  But mutations don't happen that quickly, and in nature they don't create drastic changes in the effects and behavior of the virus in the short term. Mutations are gradual processes of evolution, not abrupt or drastic changes. If you have a vaccine that worked last month, odds are it's still going to be very effective this month. 4-5 years from now may be a different story though.

But what we get with this one, is a bunch of needless media fear mongering. Probably a throw back to the old editorial approach of, "if it bleeds it leads". Bad news sells newspapers. Good news might be in section D, page 19, if it appears at all.

I'm in a rural area and all the small hamfests are already scheduled. Light at the end of the tunnels.

That's good news! It's starting to happen around here, too.

Pretty much anything before mid June isn't happening. July 1 and later looks promising.
It really depends on the availability of venues. And it seems that the owners or controllers
of possible venues are being very cautious to follow guidance of government officials.
Probably to avoid possible liability issues, and that will vary from one area to another.

And the usual group Field Day events are changing from a definite no, to a maybe.
We'll see how that plays out. But that too is dependent on the availability of venues.
The county park district we get our overnight permit from, isn't saying no anymore.
But they aren't saying yes either. The last word we got was "we'll pencil you in and
see what happens".

We Americans have turned soft. We run around with a white flag looking for someone to surrender too and take orders from. We gave up your freedom and never asked a question. Today we hide in our homes because someone told us to. We got what we asked for.
