CAS-7A Launch?
« on: September 17, 2020, 10:21:49 AM »

Has anyone heard anything either way about the launch of the Chinese CAS-7A? It was scheduled to launch on the 15th, but it has slipped before. 73 Don NA6Z

#CAMSAT says CAS-7A launch has been postponed until next May, and CAS-5A until next June.

“Because of COVID-19, many things have been delayed,” CAMSAT’s Alan Kung, BA1DU, told ARRL.

An announcement will be made closer to launch date

This is interesting to see so many new ham radio satellites coming along in the near future from CAMSAT.  Worldwide interest in satellites seems to be ever-growing.

Looking at JE9PEL's continually-updated satellite database at http://www.ne.jp/asahi/hamradio/je9pel/satslist.htm  (I prefer the .xls version), it can be seen that between CAS-5A, CAS-7A, and CAS-8A/B/C/D, there will be a lot of new transponders to play with:  actually 11 in total !!!  (10 SSB, 1 FM).  Mainly Mode B, but also some HF bands (21 and 29 MHz) too.

Gunter's Space page on CAS-5A at https://space.skyrocket.de/doc_sdat/cas-5a.htm more more detailed descriptions, and the bottom of the page has more links about all of the CAS sats.

I’ve said it before now and I’ll say it again, thank goodness for the Chinese. Although info about their satellites is sometimes sparse, they have done a great job of keeping a fleet of amateur radio satellites in space.
