No return due to parts swappers
« on: September 19, 2020, 11:42:35 AM »

Anytime I see this comment in an add, (NO RETURN DUE TO PARTS SWAPPERS) I will not deal with this person.  Trust is a two way event and when that statement shows up that says”I DO NOT TRUST YOU” , so why should I trust this seller?

Yep, me too! Not going to happen. These sellers expect us to "hope" we receive a working radio ... with no recourse if it arrives in bad shape.

One can purchase security seals and put on the equipment I suppose if one is really concerned.

And I've had a ticket 40 plus years. Never, not once, have I ever seen or heard about anyone doing "parts swapping." Total BS deal. What parts can be swapped on most radio/tuner/etc? Virtually zero. It's something some idiot said and others have picked up. In 40 years of buying and selling ham gear (for my own use), I have never, once been burned by another ham. Not a single time. Invariably something is over packed for safety and arrives earlier than I expected. This is a hobby and a sort of brotherhood. I too will not deal with the "parts swapper" fearing guys.

If you are talking about eBay the statement is meaningless.  If the seller says that the item works and the buyer says it does not eBay will refund the buyer's money. Period, end of story. If the seller never authorizes a return eBay will refund the money and the buyer can keep it.
If the buyer is ignorant of eBay policy then he gets what he deserves.

If a seller sells something on one of the Ham websites and says he will not accept PayPal prepare then it really is buyer beware.

Check the feedback of the seller. Look at the sellers items they have sold. Unfortunately there are parts swappers.
Particularly buyers of vintage rigs.

So sad that people would bother to do that, and you know if they put the bad part back it would be easy to see a circuit board thats been worked on.
I guess if you had no shame you could change face plates and knobs and send back a non functional radio.

Well if you were screwed by PayPal like I was on 2 different occasions you would not accept paypal either. I sold a radio in like new condition and 100% operable and buyer files a "not as described" complaint. PayPal ALWAYS gives the money back to the buyer without the buyer having to prove he sent the item back. In my case I sold a radio for $2700 and PayPal gave the money back and took it from my account. So now I'm out a radio AND $2700.00. The local PD is investigating it now as theft.

SO DON'T GIVE ME ANY BS ABOUT TRUST!!! LOTS OF SCUM BAGS OUT THERE

15 years ago...SAME THING happened to me!!!
Lost the equipment AND money.
Haven't used PP since and never will. IF I sell anything(rare), it's local and buyer
checks equipment in my shack(or at his/hers).
And YES..there are "parts swappers", a buddy got burned on a TS850SAT
a few years back.

I'm sure this has been said, but will say it again. The seller would save lots of time just saying, "no returns". This parts swapper thing is extraneous BS beyond those 2 simple words.

eBay sucks (as does PayPal) if you are the seller.............Here's my story:

I sold my Alpha 77sx amplifier to a guy in California about 6 years ago. It was In ABSOLUTELY MINT condition when I strapped it to the shipping pallet for it’s long journey from North Dakota to  California. Somewhere along the way a forklift driver put his forks thru the nuclear bomb proof shipping box I constructed for the amplifier. I used to work in the oil patch in ND so I know how to overbuild things.

Since I sold the amplifier on eBay (and arraigned for it’s shipping) guess who eBay demand I return $5,000 of it’s $6.000 price to? That’s right, the guy in California. My other option was to pay $400 for shipping so I could receive back this bucket of bolts. (literally)

If I didn’t refund eBays estimated $5,000 worth of damage to the buyer eBay would notify a collection agency. Since the owner accepted the pallet and signed off on it the shipper (in their mind) had fulfilled their obligation of safety delivering the amplifier.

Regardless of the incident eBay will ALWAYS side with the buyer. In my case I got screwed big time because of this.

MAybe things  have  changed for the better since those horror stories from 15 years ago.

I initiated a refund request from Paypal after a chinese outfit failed to send my order for 3 months.
They said they would investigate, Then sent an inquiry to the company. Miraculously, the package showed up just before the 10 days was up.
They kept the money and i got what I ordered.

It does not matter what is in the ad. E Bay and PayPal will refund the money if the buyer complains.

I follow a simple rule...no returns on electrical items. Just like the auto parts stores do.

Funny (in a bad way), I've dealt with sellers of firearms and related equipment, with never a problem.  Same thing goes for camera equipment.  Purchases have ranged from small items to large ticket items. Does amateur radio draw an inordinate amount of thieves?

I've sold plenty of used items on EBay and I have a no returns policy.  However the items are honestly and thoroughly described, always start with a low price, plenty of pictures (the max 12 which is allowed), and I ship to the USA only.  Never had a problem.  Am not sure of the "parts swapping " situation though. With old electronic items I always state that due to the age of the item there are no refunds because honestly, it can be working fine one day and kaput the next, especially with electronic items.  I'm at 700+ bought/sold with 100% feedback.

I've also seen those who sell with a no returns policy and that has not deterred me from bidding.  I do look at their feedback score though and anyone with a score less than body temperature gets a thumbs down hihi.
