Absolutely cannot go wrong with the FT70D. I have used one for quite a long time and it is a solid radio. As mentioned the receive and transmit audio for that matter, is very good. If you are not interested in GPS or APRS, the 70 is all you need. The FT2d has both but actually I doubt many hams use these features. The FT2d has more information on the screen and if you access Wires you can scroll thru a list of rooms. In contrast the 70DR will not, but it has a screen where you enter the room number and with one button you can access the room. It doe# have up to 5 memories or just type in the room number. It’s fun to think there are hundreds of rooms to access but if you are like most Hams you will probably monitor 3 or 4 rooms most of the time. I want to listen to a nice sounding radio. From most of the information I have gathered between the two, the 70 probably has a little nicer audio but maybe not by much. By the way, both will cross code with your hotspot and work well. I wouldn’t put much stock in the comments on battery performance. I haven’t experienced that and just let it set in the cradle charger when not in use and it probably won’t be a problem.
Good luck!
