Flagpole Antenna
« on: October 18, 2020, 08:32:21 AM »

I live in a HOA restricted community as well. Lucky for us we do not need permission to install a flagpole. All we must do is keep it 10’ from the property lines and no taller than the peak of the house. I purchased Greyline Performances 16’ flagpole antenna which is a off-center fed vertical di-pole. It is fed by LMR-400 coax with a balun and SG-237 tuner at the antenna base which feeds ladder line wire to the antenna. So far performance is decent and I am looking forward to the bands opening up more. I checked with our HOA community manager and he thinks I can raise it a few more feet, so I ordered an extension section from Greyline Performance. While this may not be the perfect antenna solution it gets me on HF and looks good too. If you check out my QRZ page you can see pictures of my setup.

Oh, it's not complicated: We need legislation to remove HOA interference with Hams,  commensurate with PRB-1 and OTARD because we really shouldn't need to hide behind a flag ordinance in our pursuit of Constitutional happiness and self expression.

HOAs need to be held to the same community standard as PRB-1 governed Municipalities.

Meanwhile? My hat is off to EVERY Ham who puts up a flagpole antenna... the more Hams on the air, the better. It might even demonstrate to HOAs that having Amateur Radio Operators in their areas is a good thing.

All the Best!

He was referring to the “happy Constitution”, not the D of Independence which has nothing to do with his hyperbole

So what is wrong with pursuing happiness under constitutional law? Or self expression?

...because we really shouldn't need to hide behind a flag ordinance in our pursuit of Constitutional happiness and self expression.

Seems Bill asks nothing unreasonable.

CWQ, on what bands will the SG-237 match the antenna?

It tunes all bands except 20 meters at 2.0 SWR or less, and typically around 1.0 to 1.5.

I think not tuning 20 meters is a tuner problem. I connected a LDG tuner and it tuned perfectly. I contacted SGC about it and have not heard back yet (they are pretty slow to respond). The SGC tuner is much faster so I prefer to use it.

Yes, but the Declaration of Independence only guarantees the PURSUIT of happiness.  And that’s not actually in the Constitution.
