Maybe out in LaLa Land but around real people they can get pretty rough and often require the cops, even in this very small town.

Aha! The triumph of the frontier! Davy Crockett as seen by Disney.

Also according no doubt to the small town sense of history via John Wayne et al products right out of the studio sets in Lala Land.

Yep, the LaLa Land version of reality.

Small towns out East were created 200-300 years before Wayne but LaLa Landers believe he is real.

Im waiting for most of that state to slide into the ocean.

300 years ago those East small towns were still burning witches at the stake and reflecting on their love for King George.

As California slides, there goes the country--economy, innovation and, above all, Hollywood.

so i guess this means people can apply for Vanity callsigns and do so for free, but not for much longer, right?

After spending a few thousands on radios, feedlines, tower and antennas, there is hardly any money left for a short vanity call sign in order to accumulate contest points faster ....  ;)

The new regulation takes effect 30 days AFTER publication in the Federal Register.  As of 31 December 2020, it HAS NOT been published in the "Fed" Register.

You can renew your license BUT NO SOONER than 90 days BEFORE the expiration date"  As this time it looks that hams with licenses expiring as late as 31 March 2021 can renew without the new fee.

So, if you want to save $35.00, get off you butts and get moving!

clearly in your case the fee is a drop in the proverbial bucket, but believe it or not their are quite a few folks for whom it can take food off their tables.  i also think of young people, like me when i was first licensed: my mom was recently widowed, lived paycheck to paycheck, and had to scrape by on pre-school teacher's wages (aka: near minimum wage) while raising three boys.  i did get a job at age 15 assembling printed circuit boards after school, but coming up with ten years worth of fees in one swoop would not have been easy given that getting a used rig, a soldering iron, as well as the components for an inverted vee was prohibitive enough.

$35 today deflates to $7.68 back in 1976.

And back then, a 5-year license was $9, which is $41 in today's dollarettes.

wow, so when i made 2.30 minimum wage at age 15 after school the equivalent today would be $10.48/hour?  isn't minimum wage only about 7.50?

i guess it isn't so much then, but i dont see where with today's computer records and online filings it costs the FCC that much $ to process a renewal or vanity application... Someone at the FCC probably wants funds to pay for a raise or more money for their dept. budget?
