high end mic pre amps, anybody use them??
« on: November 18, 2020, 08:04:57 AM »

Does anyone use stand alone preamps ?   I have a studio mic and run it into a berenger mic pre which goes into the rig....works great and was wondering if anybody else has experience with separate pre amps such as mic pres from Avalon, Grace, Summit Audio, etc.   thx

I used the TubePre for years with a dynamic mike and the audio was excellent. Used a 600 ohm  isolation transformer feeding my 7600 radio.

I used an ART Pro dual channel preampfor Two years with two different mics.  One is a Shure SM7B the other a Cascade Fathead II ribbon.  Works great.  I changed to a Yaesu MD100A8 for simplicity but I still have the ART.  Great unit but I probably will just sell it if I can't find a use for it... Ultimately it is very flexible and has real analog meters too.

Shure SM7B into a Cloudlifter CL-1 preamp into an IC-7610.
