« on: November 27, 2020, 05:39:48 AM »

Here are the latest comprehensive test of the 7610 and the authors operational notes.  Good reference material for anyone contemplating the Icom 7610.  I know I sure like mine.

Yes we know you like yours, you have only told us 100 or so times.  :) :)

Is Adam Farson still employed by Icom? I had to stop reading his .io groups because of his heavy handed biased moderation of anyone dissing an Icom. He does do interesting reports as along as one recognizes he is hardly bias free and his reports are more an advertisement than report. He has longtime ties with Icom.

Yeah, I really really like my 7610.  Especially for CW work. Stan you still liking that overpriced Yaesu thingy you bought with the funny looking 3D display? :)    I gave $2200 for my 7610..  That is one reason I really really like it.  :)   Did I mention how much I really like my 7610... I really do. It is great...Just saying Stan. :)  Oh,  I don't know Adam Farson, and I don't know who he works for.  I just thought his analysis was very comprehensive.  I guess you don't. You sure read it fast. You must be a real fast reader. Or maybe you don't like him... Or maybe you don't like him or maybe you don't like Icom's.? I dunno.  But I sure like my 7610.  I really do.  :)  Hope you are having a great day.

. Or maybe you don't like him or maybe you don't like Icom's.?

I neither like nor dislike Adam, I feel the the same about you. I do recognize he is extremely biased (like K0UA) and a shill for Icom, maybe paid, maybe not. Any ham who has owned Icoms (I have owned 12 or so) knows about Adam.

Since when does someone who has bought 12 plus Icom radios in the last 50 years not like Icoms? Do you really believe I buy radios I don't like?

You comments on my present radio are quite adolescent, I must really offend you. Unlike you, I don't worship/love my radio. Nor do I feel a need to constantly promote a radio like you do.

My Yaesu is just yet another radio in my long ham career. When I get tired of it or it no longer meets my needs I will replace it.

Why would anyone buy  FIVE of the same radios if they don't like them? Doesn't compute..  :D :D :D
In fact why would anyone buy FIVE radios of the same kind?? You gotta big family?

OH, Stan, If we can't laugh at ourselves, who can we laugh at? And no Stan, you don't offend me.  Oh, by the way, my pickup is a Chevy?  How do you feel about those?  :)

My pickup is a 2018 fully loaded Nissan Titan. I have never had a Chevy pickup, all Fords until 2000 when I got a Toyota Tundra which I owned until 2 years ago, the longest I ever owned any vehicle. The Tundra was still going strong with MANY miles on it but I wanted a more modern truck with the latest bells and whistles and safety devices.. I work a truck, mostly towing our 30' travel trailer. The Titan is nice, hope it is as reliable and lasts as long as my old Tundra.

My feelings on Chevy are neutral, my wife has had several Chevy minivans and a HHR but presently has a  Ford SUV..

The radio seems really nice, I like Icom's control and display setup.
But two things rule it out for me, everyone has different priorities and uses...

1:No filter display on the scope, its really nice to see where the signal you want is, where what you don't want is, and move the filter to just get what you want by looking.

2: does not pass audio below 200 Hz on RX and limited bandwidth on TX.
Its mostly the RX that makes the radio sound thin, 100 Hz would be ok, 50 would be better.

The antenna tuners seem very limited, but that seems par for the course.
Otherwise, it might be my top pick.

No way I am paying twice that price for any radio!

Well heck. I was hoping you were a Chevy hater...:)  By the way I have owned Ford and Chevy pickups and they were both fine and now also have a Chrysler minivan. I drove dodges almost exclusivly for many years in the form of company owned vehicles. They all worked just fine. . I have owned a lot of Yeasu's Kenwoods, and Icoms.  They were all fine for their time and value proposition. And by the way, I think your Yaesu is beautiful. I have never had my hands on one and wouldn't mind giving it a good look over.

Thanks for posting the link, James.

I've read earlier versions of Adam's report and he does a thorough job reporting the numbers and describing the rig and its features in detail.

You know, that is exactly what I thought. In fact I saved it as reference material in the 7610 folder on my server.

Stan:  I owned a 2000 Tundra and the the frame rotted out.  Toyota wouldn't do a thing about it.  It was so unsafe I had to junk it.  No more Toyotas for me.

I had a factory recall about this, don't remember the year but it was early 2000's. They pulled the bed off my truck and coated everything underneath. Took 2 days to do and Toyota loaned me a brand new Camry for a free courtesy car. You must have missed the recall. I think there was lawsuits about this rust issue too. At any rate I bought the Tundra brand new and never had ANY problem with it including rust. I had it for 18 years.
