C'mon Don. So you're the expert. You always seem to have a contrary argument to anything anybody posts ;). I say this in jest...not contradicting your valid points. But you're talking about "around here", and "most here"...in Florida. Perhaps the regulations there are more relaxed. Look at what's going on there with the COVID-19 debacle and your governor ::).

Generally speaking (maybe not in FL), the Architectural Committee can make individual *exceptions* to a CC&R, as long as it doesn't adversely impact your immediate neighbors or the community as a whole. They can't totally *change, modify, or delete* a CC&R without a vote from the community members.

All I was trying to convey is don't assume or expect anything when dealing with CC&R's and their HOA enforcing body. You don't want to mess with them, or it could cost you big time. There's always exceptions, but they're generally few and far between.

Im certainly no expert but I suspect I’ve seen, read and dealt with these issues a lot more than most here. And ‘here’ seems to be the HOA capitol of the world.

As to Covid in Florida, it’s important to look at the data rather than the misleading headlines which ignore population.  Florida ranks 3rd in total population while 21 out of 50 in deaths and 22out of 50 in the most important measure - that being how fast the infection is growing. If Rhode Island had our population, it would be called a mask crazy apocalypse. But they have a democrat governor no threat in the next election so get a pass.

I'm not an expert either, so I wasn't choked-up about you sarcastically quoting my post as being one from "always the same internet expert", with the inference that I don't know what I'm talking about. I've been respectful of the many opinions you've posted over the years and would appreciate the same in return. Nothing I said was inherently wrong. I'm just trying to convey an opinion based on experience. That experience being a homeowner in three HOA communities with antenna restrictions in the past 30 years in the Phoenix, AZ area. Maybe the second most HOA capital of at least the U.S. I've also seen, read, and dealt with these issues more than most.

That's part of the problem with these arguments...each one is based on his/her experience. And there is no uniform rules or remedies for every HOA in the world. Or even in the same state and city/county. So what is true in one area isn't true in every area. So there will never be 1 answer that will fit the question.

You are given the rules when you purchase (or sometimes before if your lucky) and your signature says you will abide by the rules. And where the rules allow for petitioning for changes, go for it. It may work in your case. Just don't expect it to work in every case.

It isn't always the written rules that can cause problems. It can also be what the people making the decision interpret the written rules to mean. Their opinions and ideas can be deciding factors as well. Their technical, or lack of technical understanding will also cause mixed results.

Even how you approach the HOA board members can cause unintended problems or surprising results. They have feelings and opinions as well. So your attitude can be detrimental or persuasive. The problem with this is you won't know which way it will go until you open your mouth. And the first impression can help or hurt.

Sorry for the confusion and lack of clarity in my comment - I was referring to a few of the regular characters here, not you. I will try to be more clear in the future.

I know you have been both objective in your comments and have actually lived in HOAs, two things lacking with those “experts” I was referring to.

Respectfully noted, Don...thanks. I interpreted it that way because you were quoting *my* post. I believe that most folks on these forums will confirm that I will never comment nor give advice on topics I don't feel comfortable posting about, especially relating to electronic theory. I admit to not being the sharpest tool in the shed in that area, and leave it to the engineers and other experts. If I am called out and proven wrong on a post, I'll acknowledge and stand corrected.

Twin 190 ft crank up rotating towers with stacked wide spaced 6 el yagis for 40 and 80 m and 7 el stacks for 10 - 20m.  All the neighbors love them, comment on their aesthetic charm and enhanced market value of our homes and want one for their yard. All painted distress orange color to differentiate them from the ubiquitous pool diving boards.

What brand of crank up?

I'm considering similar for my HOA.

Any one with long tassels and a rotating disco light should serve the purpose

Wow, that's quite a setup you have there, Don! But I wasn't inquiring about your INDOOR antennas....

I am tired of debating with you about HOA's and their detriment to ham radio in general. Thankfully, now retired in NY I don't have to live in a HOA community. However, when you start talking about Covid and bring politics into the discussion I have to tell you that you don't know what you are talking about. My daughter is a nurse at a hospital in Tampa. They have to have a separate floor for Covid care and they try to isolate them from the rest of the patients and staff. So, Florida is a HUGE state with many masses of people. I don't believe that your population quite approaches that of The NY metropolitan area yet and while NY was one of the first to deal with Covid 19 due to the vast numbers of people traveling to our state from all over the world, we seem to have gotten it under control.  I just spent a wonderful week in your glorious state. Where I live in NY 99% or more of the people wear masks, not to protect themselves, but to protect their neighbor. I rarely saw anyone wearing a mask in your glorious wonderland (By the way, love the high humidity and temperatures approaching 90 in October. I felt like a house plant in a greenhouse). I take it that you don't like Democrats from what you wrote. That explains everything I need to know.

I now see that Florida has a population surpassing NY. I admit to my errors.

Nothing to do with the subject about which you claim “tired of debating” but Florida had 2800 cases yesterday, NY had almost 6000. And that isn’t a snapshot but rather the general trend. Keep up the good work there 8).

Wait until February. If you’re still alive, resist the temptation to escape NY like everyone else there seems to want. We’re full already. And reasonably health.

My county had 153 cases as of yesterday with ZERO deaths. Why are you such an angry man? Do you suffer from Old White Guy disease? Lots of old white guys become very conservative when they realize that the demographics of the country are changing. I'm not judging you. Just trying to figure out why you are so confrontational. If we say the sky is blue you say it's grey. Oh well, enjoy Florida.
