Not to be blunt but when you placed your order you formed a contract. Based on that contract they placed an order Fore x number of radios. By canceling your order you have tied up some of their money that they have already spent in the form of a contract with their supplier. So yes I can understand their fee.

Since this was an *obvious* mistake in the first place (probably an automatic computer calculation), I suggest that one should first contact the company about an issue before denigrating it on an internet forum.

He denigrated nobody. The only denigration seems to be you denigrating the author. He only expressed his dismay and frustration. HRO is not above people expressing dismay at this, a wrongful situation in any public forum. I support the author. After that incident, if no forthcoming sensible and plausible explanation from HRO, if I were the author, I'd never do business with them again. And I'm a repeat customer of HRO.

Good. You support the author. I'll still support HRO. When he contacted HRO (something he should have done before posting a complaint on the forum), everything was resolved and he's a very happy camper. Apparently, there was a "sensible and plausible" explanation.

I was in retail sales for over 40 years, and I had my fill of people that jumped down a salesman's throat before a sensible explanation and easy resolution to a problem/situation was given.

You are joking right? No thats all Horse Hockey and you know it. So consumers are supposed to start worrying about abstract contract arragements from a ham radio retailer that has multiple outlets and lord knows how much revenue?? You can believe that if you like but that isnt how things work in the real world.

I find this very puzzling.  HRO policy is to charge a 15% restocking fee on "non defective items returned . . . . ".   You did not return anything??   It appears, if what you state is accurate, that they are not adhering to their own policy.   Seems to me you should be talking to the manager about this.  Something may be left out of this story . .. .

...and in case it helps, here is the Corporate Contact:

Yep and Ive never paid it and I never will. Exhibit A as to why HRO is a no go. "HRO kinda Blows"

HRO is charging me 15% restocking fee on a product they do have, can't sell, can't ship and can't restock, the Yaesu FTDX10D is not available yet. I canceled my order and ordered FTDX101D. Now HRO is charging me 15% restocking fee.
for the FTDX10D.

If you did not receive and open the box, and changed your order, you need to talk to a live person and see if they can reverse. The restocking fee is when (and there is a lot of them) people return their item and it was opened. HRO now can no longer re-sell the item as new, and has to discount it as an "open box". The main reason for this is there is a misconception that HRO has some sort of 10 day evaluation policy. That is simply urban legend and not true. The 10 day policy is for defective items, that allows you to return the product to HRO for exchange, without having to return for warranty, to the manufacturer. Call up store and discuss.
