FRN question - have 2 callsigns associated
« on: December 06, 2020, 11:34:47 AM »

I updated my callsign to show my current email address in the FRN registration page. It had been so long since I last did it that my email was @AOL.com.

When I look at my FRN here https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchLicense.jsp it shows that I associated my call and my wife's with the same FRN long ago. Will that cause any issues when we renew our licenses? Both of our licenses expire on the same date BTW.

Thanks

It might cause an issue. You really should have different FRNs.  I'd get it resolved as soon as possible.

I agree that you both shouldn't have the same FRN so you should get it fixed. But you're right that it's been a long time--it goes back to your original KC8 calls that were cancelled in 2000. My guess that your statement "I associated my call and my wife's with the same FRN long ago" occurred when the ULS was first set up in the late 1990s (1998 or 1999). I recall you first had to register to receive the FRN, and then you found the license(s) that should be connected to that FRN (just as you said).

The fact that you've renewed your licenses since then means it's not a fatal error, but it's messy and could cause problems at some point.

If you are an ARRL member, give them a call to help you untangle this dilemma.

With the startup of CORES (Commission Registration System) in July 2000, the FCC's December 2000 letter alerting me of my newly assigned "FRN" number stated ...

" ... a unique FRN will be assigned to every entity / individual doing business with us (FCC)."

Thanks all for the replies.

I was poking around in the FCC ULS and I think that I can remove my wife from my FRN. I contacted the ARRL and asked if this is the right thing to do. Will post any updates.

People really should read the instructions when they do filings and set up these things.

It would have prevented the whole mess from ever being an issue.

That will cause a problem.  Believe me.  You have to research how to file before you file or it will become a huge problem.  It may already be unfixable.  Contact your local affiliate.

I would probably start by having her apply for a FRN, then try to associate her callsign with the new FRN.

Seems like a straight forward correction. You can also call FRN Help Line: 877-480-3201 (Mon.-Fri. 8 a.m.-6 p.m. ET)
They can outline the appropriate steps.
