I have used their SGC-237 tuner in my attic for over 17 years. It is the center of a roughly 40 meter dipole. One "leg" acts as a long wire the other "leg" acts as the counterpoise. Tunes in a few seconds. DOES REQUIRE ABOUT 10 WATTS TO TRIGGER THE TUNE ROUTINE SO MY IC-703 WASN'T SUCCESSFUL. My "desk rig" an IC-746 does nicely. DOES REQUIRE 12 VDC. Not a "thru the coax" power scheme. Draws very little current so a wall wart is fine or a battery will last a long time. Allows me to work 40-30-12-15 as well as an attic antenna can be expected. Height above ground is about 15 feet. I live in north central Florida where it can get to freezing or a little below in the attic occasionally and hot as hates up there 8 months of the year. Guessing at least 110* for days at a time. Mine is a very good, durable product. However that said I haven't had any reason to contact SGC and mine was bought 18 years ago. So in today's world ????

Unless you are capable of servicing your own equipment, I would be concerned about the viability of a company whose home page advertises their 2019 holiday schedule and shows 2019 price changes.

If you are looking for experiential information about a specific product, use the eHam forum search feature.

I own several SGC tuners. Over the years I've had no complaints. They are great products. I've had a couple of remote tuners I had to send back for repair, turn around time was less than 2 weeks and repair cost very reasonable.

I am quote pleased with the three SGC-237 tuners and one SGC-230 tuner I have used over the past many years.   Running a similar antenna now similar to what W4FID up above is using except I modified my SG-237 tuner by putting a bias-T inside it.   Super easy and no soldering inside.  Just needed a proper inductance and a capacitor.  Now I run the 12VDC up the coax.

So SGC still answers their phone, If I were you, I would give them a call just to make sure they are still actually in business.  The web site is way out of date.

As for their products, I always liked their auto tuners, but the SGC 2020 was a flop, and the DSP boards, if they still even make them, are also not too good.

I bought an SGC-239 https://www.sgcworld.com/239ProductPage.html in 2000 and installed it in a waterproof housing about 100 feet from my house. Worked a lot of DX with it with just some random radials and a long wire in a tree. This setup also has gotten me 45 states on 160 CW. In 2018 the tuner failed and I set it back to SGC and they fixed it for about $60. So I used it for almost 18 years without any issues. I would say that I am very pleased with the tuner and would recommend it.

It seems SGC is either shut sown, closed, or out of business. I have tried calling - no answer, e-mail - rejected, I get a immediate reply that my email could not be delivered. I have tried for several weeks to contact them, always the same.

It looks like they are out of business....not returning phone calls, e-mails...

From the Secretary of Washington State...

It shows that the corporation is inactive.

That is a shame, their auto tuners were the best for years.  The SGC-237 is one of the best low power auto tuners ever.  I am surprised that no one wanted to buy them out.

Apparently they are still in operation
« Reply #10 on: June 10, 2021, 09:44:58 AM »

I just called 425-746-6310 and they answered the phone and the sgc@sgcworld.com address still works. Also HRO is stocking SCG products; https://www.hamradio.com/search.cfm

I had to send my SG-239 to them for repair two years ago as it stopped tuning. I had installed in 2000 it in a watertight box at the base of a tree to tune a longwire. I would say than it was a good value as it worked for "only" 20 years with no issues. It is the oldest piece of ham gear I own.

Things you can find on the internet:

They applied in March 2021 to the city of Bellevue for a permit for upgrades to their employee facilities.

Looks like they are still in operation!

HRO may be listing their current product line, but everything I checked is "OUT OF STOCK - Delivery Will Be Delayed"

Hi,

You can get whips of that length, or even longer, from buddipole.   Or you could get a 102" CB whip and mount it on a 3' or 6' long 3/8" I.D. aluminum tube section from DXEngineering.
