Next wave of flagships
« on: December 17, 2020, 04:12:01 PM »

I was going to treat myself at Christmas to either a 101D  890S or 7610.

But after weeks of consideration I realised I don't want any of them individually, I want aspects of all three of them.

So how many years do I have to wait for the next wave of flagships to come through ?

The chances of a radio fitting your personal liking in all aspects is almost infinite. You pick what is most important and live with the rest.

Kind of like picking a wife.

The FCC just approved the new Kenyaecom  KYI-817SD. It should be available in the USA next month for $3,249.95. I think that will satisfy your requirements ;).

In the early morning fog of just waking up, I copied/pasted that brand/model and actually did a Google search for it! Surely it must be a killer radio... It hit me when the search results came up (or lack there of!). Well played!

Just buy all three! Simple solution. Of course then you probably won't be able to afford an antenna switch. Not to mention taking the rest of your life to "know" each one and not make mistakes because you forgot which radio you were using.
Never mind. :(

Well, if you keep waiting, you're gonna miss Cycle 25. Or hope for a Kenyaecom ;).

Well, there are so many new radios popping up from third-world manufacturers we've never heard of that it was not certain that it was a joke!

True...but I think you'll agree we all need a little humor these days ;). Just trying to provide some.

Well I got the joke completely wrong, for a moment there I though Kanye West had moved into building radios.

Wow...it hasn't even been released in the States yet. Must be a piece of crap ;D.

I remember years ago when PIoneer, SONy, and YAmaha merged...PISONYA...to produce audio equipment. Wasn't very good.

Don't get me wrong, they can all do more than I would ever need in a lifetime.

But I like the scope of the Icom, the solid build of the Kenwood, and well, not much of the Yaesu as for my limited use it wouldn't be that different an experience to the FTDX3000 that I already have.

It was going to be a totally unnecessary and luxury purchase so I'm happy to wait and see if something else turns up. Just don't have a handle on how frequently they refresh their models.

Have you looked at the I phone 12?  Might save you some money.  I think it's around 900.00 and you can talk around the world with it with no antenna.  You do have to pay a monthly fee but I think it's less than 40.00.
