In the early morning fog of just waking up, I copied/pasted that brand/model and actually did a Google search for it! Surely it must be a killer radio... It hit me when the search results came up (or lack there of!). Well played!

Ha Ha...Gotcha! And it isn't even April 1st ;D.

Well, there are so many new radios popping up from third-world manufacturers we've never heard of that it was not certain that it was a joke!

True...but I think you'll agree we all need a little humor these days ;). Just trying to provide some.

That was great Bob!.  Even this old curmudgeon got a chuckle out of that one.

I was going to treat myself at Christmas to either a 101D  890S or 7610.

So how many years do I have to wait for the next wave of flagships to come through ?

Kenwood's pattern for decades has been to produce its radios for as long as they sell in sufficient quantities --usually a decade or more-- before introducing new models to replace them.

So you'll have a LONG wait to see a replacement for the 890S.

Did you know that if you get a DMR registration you can load the peanut app and talk to other hams on your phone on your end and they can be on DMR repeaters. I bet you didn't know that. :)  Still not as fun as fighting thru the noise and static crashed with your own copper antenna and your own rig and power supply as the only infrastructure.

Today I can use my cell phone to access any repeater or HF band I want. Down in Panama for XMAS and can talk to any ham in the USA on any band any time. I can do what you can do but a lot better for lot less money. If there is an emergency, I got my cell phone to call 911 and get help anywhere.  You do not need a radio to be a ham.

What would your ideal radio be like?

73 John AF5CC

Don't get me wrong, they can all do more than I would ever need in a lifetime.

But I like the scope of the Icom, the solid build of the Kenwood, and well, not much of the Yaesu as for my limited use it wouldn't be that different an experience to the FTDX3000 that I already have.

It was going to be a totally unnecessary and luxury purchase so I'm happy to wait and see if something else turns up. Just don't have a handle on how frequently they refresh their models.

Is the scope on the 890 that much behind the Icom scope?  If not, problem solved!
