Are all of the Fox satellites using the same Cadnica type cells (NiCads)?  Tony AA2TX's 2012 Fox description suggests so.  But it might have changed in later stages of the program...  did it?

Those battery types (Sanyo/Panasonic) are stated as having a normal lifetime of 500 to 1000 charge-discharge cycles.  Is that rating for a full discharge, partial discharge, or does it even matter?

How many charge-discharge cycles does a satellite go through in its design lifetime?  One cycle for each of its orbits that has an eclipse (complete or partial) in it. That is probably about 80% of its orbits.  So this means that there would be like 12 eclipses per day for a LEO, which means over 4000 complete or partial eclipses per year, during which the batteries would be discharging, then getting recharged in sunlight.  After 5 years, it is 20,000 cycles...  well beyond the stated 500-1000 cycles lifetime.

The math doesn't make sense to me.  If I am even remotely right, how can those NiCads be expected to withstand so many charge-discharge cycles?

And why would Fox use NiCads?   ???

Is that why it is giving the Safe Mode announcement?

When will it come out of Eclipse?  I tried using it earlier this week and again yesterday, and I just get the Safe Mode announcement.

AO-91 has been going into Safe Mode while the battery voltage was low. When that happens, a command station has to put the satellite back into transponder (repeater) mode.

Earlier today, Drew KO4MA announced on his Twitter feed that he has switched AO-91 off.

Hopefully this will allow the batteries to recover, at least enough to allow AO-91 to be operational at least some of the time...

Sadly, many AMSAT-NA members are blocked from seeing official AMSAT-NA social media feeds (even though they are paid members) and also KO4MA chooses to block many from his social media accounts.

If others are having problems seeing the Twitter feeds of AMSAT-NA or KO4MA (who speaks officially for AMSAT-NA) they can always view these feeds by looking at them while not logged into Twitter. It's a shame that AMSAT-NA keeps many members from seeing official announcements but, as we all know by now, that's how AMSAT-NA operates by trying to keep those they don't like from being able to gain information.

IMHO, paid members of AMSAT-NA should not be blocked from official social media feeds of the organization. By denying members services that others are allowed to use, AMSAT-NA continues to put it's 501(c)(3) status in danger. Just sayin'

Have you ever considered using your efforts to promote satellite operations and the hobby in general in a positive light?

Have you ever considered using your efforts to promote satellite operations and the hobby in general in a positive light?

Hello, KD9ISN. I’m not familiar with your call sign and don’t recall hearing you on any satellites, but that’s okay

Before you judge me, you may want to know a bit more about me. I’ve been a ham for quite some time. I’m even one of those people that took a CW test to gain access to HF then refined those skills to be able to work any station, at any speed. Those were some fun days.

I am very active on amateur radio satellites and have two daughters that are also on the air. One has a license, W4AQT and the other will hopefully get one but is still active and uses my call with me as a control op.

Since you claim I don’t promote amateur radio or amateur radio satellites, you need to ‘your ducks in a row’ and use facts. I have Elmered my two daughters. One of which was asked to speak at Dayton and gave a talk regarding AMSAT and satellites. She and I have given numerous demonstrations and presentations. We are both ARRL Certified Instructor and I am an ARRL and CAVEC VE. My daughter and I are also members of many local clubs and organizations. Are you? I ask that you don’t judge until you are able to back-up your facts. I post things that I can back-up with facts, not just innuendo. I encourage you to do the same.

I have helped a LOT of people through social media and in person with everything from satellites to HF. I just don’t need to brag about it or have fancy titles. My background is well documented and easily verifiable regarding promoting amateur radio. I can’t seem to find anything, as far as, an online bio for you so it seems silly for you to state mistruths about me. If I’m wrong, I apologize.

I tend to represent the many that are marginalized by the legacy, incumbent AMSAT-NA Board members that enjoy bullying others online. I say that because i get the emails and messages from those that have been marginalized. It’s NO secret and, documented here, along with other places that the legacy, incumbent Board members of AMSAT-NA enjoy censoring and marginalizing certain AMSAT-NA members. I can say this with certainty. I was once a part of their ‘friendly’ group. I have the chat logs where they enjoy making fun of newcomers. I have archived many megabytes of their conspiracies. I can back-up everything I post with written proof and documentation. I’ve posted some of it here.

As I stated above. I’m a ham. I’m proud of it. I have Elmered my own children. I have Elmered others. I am active on VHF/UHF/HF. I am active with CW. I am active on satellites (FM, linear and digital). I keep four grids (EM61/62/71/72) active for newcomers to satellite to work. I don’t see you in my log so I’m not sure how active you are on satellites.

Are you an AMSAT-NA member? Do you care about the leadership of AMSAT-NA?

I don’t mind speaking the truths that AMSAT-NA doesn’t want to be heard. Members (I’m a paid member) deserve to hear all the truth, not just what legacy, incumbent Board members want the public to hear. Once again, I can backup everything I post with documentation. I also don’t have a problem calling out the ARRL with things they do that I feel members should know about but this is a satellite forum so that’s why I speak about satellites and the truths about National satellite organizations. To prove it’s not just just about AMSAT-NA. I also have no problem stating that the new AMSAT-Ireland group as a sham organization.

KD9ISN, I respectfully ask that you don’t become a blind follower of those that just use ‘talking points’. If you aren’t an AMSAT-NA member, become one so you can vote. If you are going to ‘call out’ myself and others, be prepared to provide a bio that shows you have some credibility.

KD9ISN, I am here anytime that you want to log EM61/62/71/72 via a satellite or other means. All you have to do is let me know.

Happy holidays and 73!

It’s easy to see the AMSAT-NA shills that post here, as well as, other places. Since we have an official AMSAT-NA Ambassador and official representative posting here. I have to ask, how many people are okay with having an AMSAT-NA representative calling people Nazis and Klan members. Sadly, this is what AMSAT-NA seems to support. Like I said, I only post things that I can document. Here’s what K6LCS has to say, you can read it for yourself:

Folks, it’s easy to see that AMSAT-NA has shills (paid?) that will immediately respond to any criticism. What does that tell you about AMSAT-NA? Hmmm?

This is a better link for what the. AMSAT-NA Ambassador has to say.  Should AMSAT-NA representatives be allowed to call others Nazis or Klan members? Does this represent AMSAT-NA?

AMSAT-NA, Clint K6LCS, just posted this in this thread and then deleted it:

This particular AMSAT-NA Ambassador has a history of posting, then deleting (or editing) things. I'm not sure why, but he does. Any way, here's my response:

If your dress code and hygiene is scaring kids, you should probably change it so that it doesn't. I've never scared any children. Why is AMSAT-NA allowing a representative to scare kids? Posting and deleting things is childish.

I will say this, W4AQT, has brown skin. She can mark off certain boxes on applications. She is a minority. She is also my daughter.

As the father of a minority, daughter, I take it very personally when an AMSAT-NA representative is a racist and uses words like "Nazi" and "Klan". I know what those groups think about my ham daughter.

To have AMSAT-NA support and make a representative of someone that utters those words is disgusting.

I have no problem calling-out someone that claims that they have a disability, when there is proof that there is no disability (once again, only post documented facts) but for AMSAT-NA to allow a proven racist to represent them turns my stomach. For the record, I don't represent AMSAT-NA or any other national or regional amateur radio organization.

It is what it is and it's documented. AMSAT-NA  has a representative that clearly identifies as such that posts on social media who calls other people Nazis and Klan members. These words are abhorrent.

I passed the code test in 1977 and received a novice license. Other interests became more important and it lapsed. I re-entered ham radio in 1997.

I am very active on amateur radio satellites and have two daughters that are also on the air. One has a license, W4AQT and the other will hopefully get one but is still active and uses my call with me as a control op.

Online bio? Maybe some don't need to pound their chest constantly to pad their ego. I don't.

I am active on the satellites mainly data. I didn't realize that being in your logbook was a requirement to be in the "club".

Are you an AMSAT-NA member? Do you care about the leadership of AMSAT-NA?

Yes I am a member of AMSAT-NA, AMSAT-UK, ARRL, my local club W9XG. I do care about the leadership.

I don’t mind speaking the truths that AMSAT-NA doesn’t want to be heard. Members (I’m a paid member) deserve to hear all the truth, not just what legacy, incumbent Board members want the public to hear. Once again, I can backup everything I post with documentation. As I stated I am a member. I did vote. You sure assumed much from my 1 sentence response to your post about myself and who I support. I check these forums from time to time to hopefully gain knowledge about the hobby. I prefer positive things in life.

KD9ISN, I am here anytime that you want to log EM61/62/71/72 via a satellite or other means. All you have to do is let me know.

Happy Holidays! Let me know any time you want to log any of the grids from which I operate. Like I said, you really shouldn't judge me, I noted that you didn't reply to that. That's cool. I'm still here for you if you need my grids and I hope you are enjoying your reentry to the hobby/service.
