CONTESTS AND PROPAGATION?
« on: January 02, 2021, 10:50:04 AM »

If a band is dead, as soon as a contest starts the band that was dead is now filled with people.

Either God loves contests or the bands are dead because of lack of activity until a contest.

Any thoughts?

My thought is the bands are open and nobody gets on unless a big contest kicks off?  Then holy cow all kinds of people on.  I don't know how long you have been a ham but the next couple big contests listen and find out.

There are also days in which there is noticeably more activity, such as the Forth of July.  Europeans will look for Americans on that day.

CW and SSB are active on weekends than week days.  I was listening this morning, Saturday, on 30 CW and heard lots of stations.
I worked N4SFR who was putting a summit on the air.  But, you also have to pay attention to the International Date line.
Stations in Japan have to go to work when it is still our weekend.

Have you not heard all the hams that claim a frequency freak out when a contest kicks off.  They turn their amps up to drive them away but it doesn't work.  The regular hams hate contesters.

It's not propagation it's just lack of activity.  When the contest ends the band is silent.

I shouldn't have to tell you old hams this that have been around for decades.

Instead of publicizing your ignorance and lamely trying to stir up trouble here, consider reading a book on HF propagation.
