News outlets that rely on advertising dollars have many flaws.

That is a 2 way street. The newsies (aka talking heads) rely on advertising money to fund their ridiculous salaries and then give a lot of that money to one particular political party and claim they are not biased in their reporting.

I say a minimum of 100 bucks a month fee and if you miss a payment your license is expired and you have to retest.

We need to get this hobby cleaned up.

I can tell a lot of hams have never played golf. One round cost more than a ten year license. Hams ought to be ashamed of themselves for such petty grievances. Like two old bald men arguing over a comb.

When one is on a fixed income, believe me, one does not play golf. He very possibly checks out the Chinese junk for prices, but he doesn't decide it's time for a heap of Collins gear either. One does what one can. (Besides, she won't let us!)  ::) ::)

I was a caddie for a few warm weather seasons down on LINY. The tips were great.

You know why they call it "golf", right?

(Because all the other four-letter words were already taken).

One round cost more than a ten year license.

And that's at an inexpensive course!

$35 for a ten-year license works out to less than a penny a day. About what it costs to keep an HT charged.

Hams ought to be ashamed of themselves for such petty grievances.

But it works!

Originally the fee was going to be $50. Hams complained (via ARRL and directly) and now the fee is $35. That's a 30% discount.

Like two old bald men arguing over a comb.

Pretty much.

Heck, in MY day, back when I got MY Extra in 1970, at the age of 16, after waiting two looong years as an Advanced, the fee was $9 - for a five year license. Adjusted for inflation per the Westegg Inflation Calculator, that's about $60 - $12 a year in today's money.

Did we complain back then? YOU BET WE DID!
