Many companies make more money from the contact list they build and sell then they lose in the rebate paid out. Spend a little to make more...the American way!

Cost of customer acquisition, I guess...

Worst company for rebates was Tiger Direct going back several years.  The horrors stories on that outfit were endless.

I just learned that ICOM  requires buyers to complete and submit an on-line request for their rebates. I understand ICOM is doing this to make the rebate process easier (mainly for them but not necessarily the customer). They also require the customer to upload an electronic file containing a copy of the receipt for the radio as well as a the UPC from the  box that came with the radio. Unfortunately they no longer accept mail-in rebate requests, which will present a problem for folks who don't have internet access (and yes, there are some Hams who don't). >:(

Merely a simple method for Icom to save money by not sending out rebate checks!

Most printers have a scanner, put it to use.

Show of hands:  How may hams have NO access to the internet?

I have purchased many Icom radios since the early 1980's and always waited for the rebate offer to
make the purchase and the rebate form always came with the purchase(several times) and I
never had a problem receiving the rebate check.

LOL Funny question to post on an internet forum.

But in reality there are probably more than anyone would expect. I know 2 just in our local club of about 30 members.

I can think of at least two people and I don't have very many friends.

And these people who have NO internet access (not even a nearby library) or any friends that have access to the internet, are buying new Icom radios?  Uh, huh.

I have to agree on that, I too find it a bit tough to swallow that any ham would not have access to the internet, or can't get it through a friend or family member.

I have never seen any increase in advertising from either snail mail or email due to me submitting a rebate to Icom or anyone else.

In fact, I would welcome more emails from companies who make and sell ham items I might be interested in.

Given the fact that the FCC now requires an email - rather than a physical - address for contact information for new licenses and renewals, they'd better get connected.

The ARRL will step up, and maintain an email address, forward correspondence. For an annual fee.
