Anderson Power Poles ???????????
« on: January 12, 2021, 04:35:49 PM »

Love them or hate them. Tons of opinions. BUT, the question is one of manufacturing origin.

Albert Anderson in Boston MA started the company way back when. Today it states that the connectors are made in MA, the UK, and China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The BIG question how do you know if you are getting counterfeits? One time the package might say USA and the next CHINA.

I've already have a collection of Amphenol  "genuine" counterfeit connectors at 4x the price.

Just wanting to know?

I purchased my Anderson PP connectors from Quicksilver Radio, West Mountain, R & L, and HRO. I’ve noticed no difference in quality except for the 45 amp connectors. Sometimes they don’t roll so nice in my crimper and are very difficult to “click” in to the housing. I believe that’s mostly due to my technique, and not manufacturer quality. No science here I may have received branded all along from my sources.

I’ve used Anderson PP’s for a long time, mostly in RC Aircraft (soldered connectors in a flying machine are a bad idea) with great success. I’ve been through a lot of connectors. If some Chinese knockoff versions were slipped in I never noticed. They rarely failed.

So where did you purchase the "counterfeit" connectors at?
NAME OF SELLER:  ? ? ?

Just buy your "connectors"  from a reputable source....Powerwerz, West Mountain, any amateur radio dealer.

Do not buy from ebays, amazons, etc., nor any "cb" hack shop.

Now that I no longer solder them and use a decent crimper instead, Power Poles work well for me. (I have no interest in the solder-vs-crimp wars. Do what you want to do. I'm just saying that I've had far better results with crimping.)  It's easy to crimp Power Poles to wires, and connector retention force is very good. I'm satisfied with the high-quality Power Pole connectors I've been buying from Quicksilver.

I bought my crimper from the now defunct High Sierra Radio; it's identical to the one that Quicksilver sells. While I'm very happy with it, I think you can get decent crimpers from a number of sources. Make sure you get one that ratchets until the correct amount of crimpiness is achieved, then releases.

I wish I could find the slide in anvils for my coax crimper that work for the power poles. I hate to have to buy another crimper. I already have $70 invested in this one.

Has anyone used the 45A connector inserts for 16-18 gauge wire instead of 10 gauge? It looks like the front of the connector would crimp the smaller wire while the rear would crimp and hold the insulation.

I found several on eBay with the search string "crimper die power pole".

Unfortunately none of those will fit. My crimper anvils have slots not holes to quick change the anvils.ConnectoRF Professional Quick Interchangeable Crimping Tool Kit for Coax RF connectors with 5 Die Sets

It appears that the slots have holes at the end.  What am I missing here?   ;D

The pins in my crimper are captive spring loaded ones. You push them in to accept the anvils. I need slotted anvils made for my ratchet handle.

I bought mine right off the rack at HRO, back when you could go in the store. Before the dark times, before the Empire. Sorry wrong universe. Or is it? "It's an older code Sir, but it checks out."
