MFJ-5008 ultrasonic sniffer
« on: January 17, 2021, 06:36:02 PM »

Did anybody use the ultrasonic dish MFJ-5008 successfully?

My works very well tracing insects. But when the power line noise is very strong, the device picks up the noise by indiction, whatever direction the dish is turned on. When directed to insulators, it seems to pick up something, but that something is buried within the induced noise.

Mine works well, but I use it after using other equipment--a VX8R with a portable directional antenna (arrow 2m/440 beam) to get to the RFI source. It is actually a pretty good ultrasonic dish for the money, IMHO.

I use not only the MFJ-5008 but a 2 meter HT tuned to the aircraft band with a 3 element beam.

Is that HH 2 meter radio dual mode (AM/FM)?  Or is it an airband two way?
