Storage & Security of Club Equipment
« on: January 20, 2021, 12:29:44 PM »

Our club owns equipment that we use primarily for Field Day and Winter Field Day.  Items include dipoles, coax, trailer-mounted crank-up tower, triband Yagi, triplexer, band pass filters, antenna rope, headphones, extension cords for AC power etc

Antennas, coax, ropes etc are stored in larger plastic truck-bed type tool boxes.  Other equipment is in something like a large Rubbermaid tote.  Currently, these items are at a member's residence.  That's not really fair to the member to have to be responsible for the equipment, and if the member isn't home, then we can't get to it.  The tower trailer is also at his residence.

Our club is not that large, and we can't afford a rental storage bin on a long-term basis.

If your club has similar equipment, how do you handle storage and security?

You might think of a "Conex" shipping container. Sometimes you can get the relatively cheap. You might need to put some vents and heat in it to make it better climate controlled.

Unless your club is wealthy enough to afford it's own clubhouse, you pretty much have to rely on the members for storage of club owned property. This is the situation my club is in.  Our property, none of which is used for field day, is scattered in the hands of at least four people, one of whom is a former property trustee but is no long a member of the club.  Most of our stuff is random equipment acquired through donations and isn't real valuable.

The idea of a shipping container is a good one, but you have to have a place to put it.
