Orbitron Freezes
« on: February 03, 2021, 09:04:47 AM »

I have been trying to use Orbitron on my Assus Win10 laptop.  While the program runs and the satellite moves on its track, if I click on one of the tabs, such as Prediction, etc. the program does not respond to any other screen commands.  I have tried running the program as administrator and under compatibility mode for WinXP and none of those changes fix the problem.  I have to go into task manager to close it.  I have watched several of the youtube videos on setting up the program, but none of those seem to help.  I realize that the program is 15 years out of date, but several satellite operators still seem to use it.

DId you try a later version of window compatibility? Win 10 runs my 15 year old software ( not Obitron, though) in compatibility mode rather well.

I am trying to us Orbitron v3.71.  Have delete and re-installed but the problem persists.  I have tried running as XPsp3, Vista, and Win7 compatibility and as administrator.  So far nothing has corrected the freeze problem.  In the frozen mode, only operator input is frozen, the program still computes the orbit and updates the track on the screen.  I just cannot make any changes thru the tabs or the pull down in the upper right hand corner of the screen.  The program runs fine on my old Gateway with XP, but I really don't want to have to lug the heavy laptop, when I could use my light weight laptop.

Hi Clint,

No I did not.  Searched the web, but could find no possible solutions.  I have gotten SatPC32 working fine so I will probably stick with it.

Finally fixed the problem.  Found a sub-window was going off the screen, so I could not see it and there was no indication on the status bar that another window was open.  I guess because the program is an 32 bit application.  Was playing with it again an noticed a line on the right side of the monitor which when I teased it over to the center turned out to be the sub-window.  So nothing else could be selected until the window was closed.  Moved it over and saved the program an that solved the problem.
