Sending and receiving packets but no tracking on the map
« on: February 05, 2021, 12:49:25 PM »

I finally got aprs working where I'm sending and receiving packets but I'm not showing up on the APRS.fi map. I,m using APRSdroid with a Wolphilink connected to my Yaesu FT 818. On my drive, smart beaconing would send out a packet and I would get instant reply but I don't show up on the map. In APRS droid I hit "start tracking" I can see my position on my phone but when I do a search, " no packets Found for KC1KQY" Any ideas on what to try next???
Thanks for the help!!

Just hitting a digipeater doesn't mean you're on the internet based aprs.fi website. Your packet has to make it to an igate. Do you know if there is an igate in range of the digi(s) you're getting a response from? If not then you won't be on aprs.fi.
As for your phone, I assume that is working over the cell network? Or, do you have the phone connected to a TNC and a radio? If it's hooked to a radio then the same problem applies. If it's going over the phone's data connection then it should be on aprs.fi. Are you just searching for your call or are you searching for your call with the appropriate SSID? Typically a data connection like that would have a 5 for the SSID so you should be searching for KC1KQY-5.

Thanks for the reply. I'm starting to think that same thing, that I'm not hopping out far enough to hit an IGATE. The information that I get back is identical to what is sent out so I don't know how to see what station is responding I only know that for most of my 20 mile drive that I sent a[packet out, I got an instant "received" Packet back that is identical to what was sent only it appears in blue right on top of the green packet that was sent ( I'm using APRSDroid on my phone) How do I identify what station is responding?
Thanks

Oh man I just finished the same struggle here... You may need to set your path to cast a wider net, I use "wide1-1, wide2-1" to make sure I get 2 hops to an igate.

Good luck!

The digipeater should have added itself to the path, so the blue received packets should be slightly different. Are there any digis nearby on aprs.fi? If not, they may have a similar problem--not set up as an iGate (maybe no internet there), no iGate in range, or not enough path hops to get to an iGate that is actually in range.
