10-10 Winter QSO Contest first weekend of Feb. 2021
« on: February 06, 2021, 08:38:18 AM »

The 10 meter band is usually dead until contest weekends. If more operators got off FT8 and other PC based digi modes you’d see how much more active the band would be.

This contest is a great way to get your 10-10 International number and become a member.

Hope to see you all this weekend. Give it a whirl and don’t give up so quickly despite the propagation.

I'd rephrase that to say "10M always sounds dead until a bunch of people start calling CQ, like in a contest."

I'm not an FOC member but this weekend was one of the FOC contests and there were signals galore coming through on 10M from them!

I agree John, I tried to explain that to Eric and other things regarding contesting but he got upset.

I understand and good for you get on 10M and make some contacts.

God Bless you and your family John.

First off, the FOC is not a contest. It’s an activity day so both of you are wrong. It says it right on their web site.

Second, when I posted this thread there was nothing till a couple of very light DX stations came in and unfortunately they were not 10-10 members with numbers.

Third, there aren’t enough people calling CQ these days due to laziness, self esteem issues, lack of common sense, anti-social, anti pragmatic and mostly thanks to digital modes that feed and facilitate these particular traits we see in today’s society. I mean, why call CQ when FT8 is easy, don’t need an efficient antenna with gain and a computer program that allows you to walk away from the radio 8 hours out of the day while the program makes and collects QSO contacts for you? Well, we shouldn’t call them QSO’s cause there is zero QSO involved and you don’t need a human to call CQ.

Oh and by the way, I don’t get upset. I laugh at the silliness of today’s mind set.

One more thing, if an event or contest is in CW mode I would always expect more activity on CW than SSB. Problem is, you have less talent out there thanks to political correctness and feeding the less talented so they’ll be less activity even in that mode, BUT HEY. Thanks to FT8 you don’t need those things.

WINK WINK!

Eric I'm not sure why you are so angry about todays society.  Take that to a political website and forum.

Relax this is just a hobby and a ham radio forum.

If there are not enough people calling CQ on a non contest day because everyone is lazy, I believe that's what you said.  If during a contest the 10 meter band is full of people calling CQ all of a sudden that makes the contesters the lazy people for not using the band everyday when it's dead.

I have no idea why you have such a problem with FT8, you keep bringing that up, I think it is a great part of this hobby.

Anyway good luck Eric, hope you and your family are well.  73
