"Some" Hope at a Poor QTH
« on: February 06, 2021, 11:39:45 AM »

Hey All.

A very quick  report : 2/5/2021 1900 Z onward : Frequencies may be off a Kc or so but :

9567 SP - Cuba ? Fair
9562 R . Nac. Spain. V.Good.
11762 "Buzz Saw "-long burst secure comms ? Good (anybody ever  hear this  or  know  what it is ,used to be WAY up above 24 Mhz)
11691 RTTY . Strong.
11820 Arabic prayer call. Good.
11860 unid. Poor
11900 FF. Strong
11930 Unid. Fair/wk
11940 SP. Fair
11965 Bible , EE good.
12032 SP. Fair
12050 SP. Fair
12075 Unid, Fair
14038 CW , Fair
14054 CW . Fair
15770 FF . Fair

( 10 and 15 Mhz WWV nothing, not even a beat note.)

Rcvr ATS 803 a . A lot of folks like this rig , "for what it is". I am somewhat less impressed. It ain't  no R-70 or R-71A, that's for sure. Antenna 75' indoor in basement .Marginal on a good day.Better than nothing though.

I guess the take away is that even in an RF hole and mediocre gear, there is "some" stuff out there to be had. Cycle building again ? But who's left on air is also a real concern .My first HF scan in quite a while. It kind of demonstrates 25 M being as close to a "24 hr" band as you can get.Not much above or below.

I do MUCH better on the B'cast band up in my bedroom.Last night at 2330 Z got KDKA 1020 up against middleweight WINS 1010 and local blow torch WBZ 1030. It required razor sharp orientation of both   the Select-A- Tenna loop and the Panasonic 840 ( which has a VERY good to excellent  AM section ! ).
