I know this is kind of prehistoric, but is there anyone on this forum who has experience doing phone patching into ham radio?

I'd like to pick your brain for a project.

Thanks

I thought I posted something here, but I guess I didn’t the correct button.  Many moons ago when I was in Viet-Nam I ran bazillions of phone patches, many through K7UGA’s station in Phoenix.  We used Collins equipment, of course, and set-up was quite easy.  I wasn’t aware that anyone still ran phone patches.

But I’m willing to answer questions.

Christine,
Yes, I personally have a good deal of HF radio Phone Patch experience....

--- Some on the ham radio bands (most for boats at sea, or hams in remote 3rd world locales), mostly in the past 20 years....(some 40 years ago)

--- Some immediately adjacent to the ham HF bands using the Army MARS freqs, using ham radios and all ham equipment (for deployed service personnel overseas)....mostly in 1990 / 1991.
{fyi, I personally ran the Army MARS station (AAR4CSS), 6 to 10 hours a night, for 6 - 7 nights a week, for months....and I personally usually ran dozens and dozens of phone patches each night!  (My usual stations in Saudi were AEM3VV  and AEM3VP)   Our MARS station ran ~ 13,000 phone patches in 6 - 9 months...}

--- And, in addition to being on the shore-side / telco side (where I was doing the "patching" into the phone lines (PSTN), I have also been the ham at sea, and having my radio signals patched into the telephone network (PSTN)....and have also done so, via the Maritime HF bands, using public coasts stations which have all now mostly been eclipsed by sat comm systems...

So, please get in touch if you desire.

John,  KA4WJA
