Website terribly sluggish lately
« on: February 20, 2021, 09:35:26 AM »

Is there a problem with the EHam web server lately?   ( today is Feb. 20, 2021 )    The server has been extremely sluggish the past couple days.....taking a good 20 seconds or more to load pages.....on all devices here.   Is everyone else experiencing this?   It is the ONLY site doing this for me.

No site speed issues noticed here.

Maybe try dumping your browser's cache/history and see if that helps.

That is totally strange. Mine is faster now than normal. Not sure what's up with that.

Normally a good idea,  but I'm having the same issue on two iPads and two PCs,   one which had never been on eHam ....     Wonder if my ISP could somehow be involved?    Everything else is dandy,,...  my normal speeds are still around 60-70mbps.

We have had massive power outages in the Dallas area for the past week. Spectrum has been out a week also. Now that everything is back to almost normal internet speeds and even eham have increased drastically . Hope it stays this way.

FOLLOW UP  ---   Just turned off connection to my local WiFi and local ISP and went through Verizon --  problem went away.   Must be either my router or my ISP issue.   Sorry to bother everyone on this ... shoulda done that test before posting.

Here in central Texas we also had widespread power outages and I don't think it's fully restored quite yet.
Water supply outages are a bigger issue at present.

No doubt many internet services along with local customers had internet outages as well. That may have reduced network loading and increased speed for those not affected.

NA4M.  Yah you are probably right. But my isp Spectrum was off about a week here. Yesterday and today back on and very fast. ERCOT and Oncor may be in trouble with all the power outages. Lots of cover ups from those 2 groups.

FINAL FOLLOWUP:
Well,  this was interesting to me.   Rebooted my ASUS RT-AC66U  router.   Probably been several months or close to a year since done anyway.    Now the mis-behaving eHam.com  is loading as quick as everything else was.
Not sure if something changed in the router,  or the re-boot caused something to change in the ISP's equipment....  ( a 5 GHz dish on the roof )... but all is well.

Ive noticed Eham will sometimes show ALL forums as read and nothing can be opened. End Eham and reopen and all is fine. This has been 3 times in about 5-6 days. All other open subjects are fine. I'll sometimes have 20-30 browsers open dealing with almost as many subjects and not ham related ;D

ERCOT and Oncor may be in trouble with all the power outages. Lots of cover ups from those 2 groups.

Its my understanding that ERCOT the Texas power grid operator told all Tx electrical utilities including Oncor to which ERCOT controls power flow to shed load. Otherwise the Tx grid was minutes if not seconds from catastrophic collapse.   ERCOT had power generators fail en masse from the weather.

My daughter's house across town is on Oncor and was without power from early Tues AM until late Thur.  A couple friends locally served by Perdnales Electric had power up/down for several days.  I'm on a municipal utility and had intermittent blackouts up to 6 hrs long until early Tues AM. After 6AM Tue my power stayed on.

The finger-pointing and fallout started before the power came back on...

Yes. ERCOT shut down many of the neucular and fossile burning plants trying to stay Green. The wind and solar powered plants couldn't keep up with the high demand. They lied to the Texas Government saying that all was on line an going well. Hopefully the state will sue them so this won't happen again.

Or, better yet, allow some of the fuel driven 'providers' to remain, if only on "stand-by" and in 'warmed up readiness'.
