MMTTY F key issue
« on: February 22, 2021, 04:25:43 PM »

My MMTTY macros are setup from F1 - F9. To activate them I simply press their corresponding F key. Something recently happened where pressing their F key alone will not trigger the macros. There is a drop down box in MMTTY where you setup how you want to trigger each macro. If I select Shift+F1 the macro will trigger just fine. If I select ALT+F1 it will work as well. In fact, any of the drop down box's selections will trigger F keys as long as I amend the F key with something else. (F1+ALT, etc)

 Question:

How do I revert back to a simple press of the F keys button triggering a macro?

Tom, You may have inadvertently set your function keys to default to multimedia settings. There may be a function lock setting you can change on your keyboard or in bios. This is an issue common on newer PC where you see the alternate icons on the keys. You may also try a different usb keyboard and see if the problem persists. Good luck!

 Thanks John.

Well, well, well............I just bought a new Bluetooth keyboard yesterday & the F key issue started immediately upon using it. Unfortunately, (like everything else on Saipan) the keyboard is manufactured in China & there are no instructions as to how to change the function lock settings. Here are a few pictures of the keyboard. Maybe some eHam sleuth can advise me on what keys to try in order to turn off the function lock? There's no on-line manual for this particular keyboard which I could find.

EDIT: Sorry about the photos being sideways. Hopefully you won't hurt your neck looking at them..........

Tom - I ran into this years ago, I think it was a function key lock problem - there is a good explanation here.

This was when I bought a new keyboard that is used by gamers and the keyboard had a special Fn key. I think for me it was something simple like holding that Fn key and ESC at the same time to toggle between "action" mode where the Fkeys did something different that gamers like and to where my software worked right.

The only reason I can think why this might only happen only with RTTY and not CW or SSB is the sound card use - maybe the keyboard kicks in function key lock when it sees.

 Thanks for the tip John.

I tried the Fn+ESC suggestion but nothing happened. Pretty much tried the Fn+ all other keys that make sense & got the same results...........This Fn key has me F'n frustrated.  :)

Tom, this doesn't help your problem, but I use FLdigi as the RTTY( and other data modes) "engine" in N1MM+

It took a bit to get it set up, but it works flawlessly.
