Small foreign sdr receivers
« on: March 09, 2021, 07:10:07 PM »

I saw a review on eham for a tiny Russian made sdr. It was called Belrig and the reviews are fantastically glowing. Some of the comments saying that this $149 radio just blows away any old portable radio, Sony, Teusum. Its cigarette box size with a thimble type know on the side.
Then I saw a Malahit sdr with a water fall display, touch screen. This radio also had rave reviews but it comes with heftier price a base of $197 and now an additional board for better hf, and quite a large receive coverage.
Just curious if any one the board have any thoughts on these radios or others, I wouldn't mind building one, but the source is so far away.
I am very aware of the clones out there, and they are everywhere.

Thanks, I just took a brief look before I head out. I was hoping that someone else had some ideas from these small sources.
At first reading about the Belrig was very interesting, the reviews on e ham. For the price it seems like a really cool radio to own, then the Mala hit even more money. The idea of soon fades as the price goes up, they are only receivers.

The absolute best SDR is Airspy HF+ Discovery. It is so good if ranked would be in the top 10 of all receivers. Not bad for $160 vs $5000 a ham would pay for a HF rig with a receiver as good as the AirSpy. They use the same 18-bit digital down conductor high-end commercial radios use. Where most SDR's made for hams only use 8 to 12 bit DDC. Secondly it is not made or finances your enemy.

usb radios have too much latency, they need to move things to ethernet.
