eHam Guests.  It’s not a hotel, it’s a way of life.

You can check out, but you can never leave eHam.
Except for the disgusting trolls, why would anyone want to leave?? ::) ::) ::)

But you can travel on ten thousand miles and still say where you are.

$50 says nothing changes or improves.

I doubt we will even get a reply much less results. Even private emails go unanswered.

Is anybody really surprised by this when we see basic site maintenance is routinely ignored?
I don't know if it's a lack of interest, talent or vision that has gotten Eham in this state, but it is THEIR site to do what they will (or won't) with it.

Well, ding, dong, dang it! I still love it!  8)

How many marriages fall apart after a short time that, with a wee bit of patience and understanding, it could have lasted to the grave?

How many jobs have we quit instead of going on to retirement for a nice pension?

We should give it some time and patience, trying to understand that most problems aren't just a matter of tightening a screw or tuning a capacitor to become operative again.

Maintaining something like a forum has potential problems that the average Joe cannot, or ever will, comprehend. We have to make the best of what we have on hand.

I realize that for some their time is crucial and sometimes even critical, but with a little patience it will eventually come to pass and all will be accomplished and acceptable. It just takes time and patience. Let's just enjoy the forum as much as we can, while we can.

Welcome to the best ham radio forum I've ever found. We have our customary couple of trolls, but the main body, you'll find, will go the extra mile to be helpful.
No matter the problem, someone here will solve it for you.
Again, welcome aboard!

Charley,

They still have jobs with pensions?

I say that tongue in cheek as I just transferred my credits in the IBEW to my new employers pension plan)....

But seriously, there aren't a whole lot of decent pensioner jobs around anymore.  And those that have them, today's kids could care less...

But look at me dragging things off topic.

What gets under my skin is a moderator making a troll post and then not coming back to talk with people in the site about it.  And if he / she doesn't want to talk about it, uts a straight up troll post.

Since the owner passed away, both this site and contesting.com have really been neglected.  At one time both sites had hundreds and hundreds of posts a day.  Contesting, except for a couple of non supported mailing lists is a ghost town.  And EHAM is pretty much relegated to a status of....  Well, it's a site.

More and more forums are moving to groups.io.....  As evidenced by one of the contesting.com mailing list admins talking about a group on groups.io!

People can do what they want, but a baby rant by an admin and then ghosting his post is no way to run a successful website.

To lend proof to my statement regarding help given so readily, I ordered a digital readout from Pac. Ant. and discovered it incorporated SMD's. Ye gads!! I can't solder those teeny weeny spidery things!! What am I going to do??

Long story short: One of the regulars in the forum agreed to do it for me. (Whew!!)
It arrived today with close to a 10.00 shipping tag. (Pre-paid by builder!!)

When I told him I'd send him money for the shipping, he said to drop it into Sunday's collection basket.

Do not tell me I shouldn't love this group, management problems and all!!  ;D ;D

Incidentally, looking at the job he did so professionally for me, put a lump in my throat. This forum breeds gratitude, believe me!

OK trolls, have at it! I don't care.

Charlie

One day we all find ourselves wondering what happened because we used to be able to do harder work than that. ... sigh ...
Incidentally, no name given here, but I bet half a dozen can guess who it was!!

I was brought with the saying " To find a friend shut one eye, to keep a friend sometimes shut both eyes."

I was out of amateur radio for a long time, and was amazed and shocked at the changes that had happened.

When I stumbled upon the various web sites that are about, I found a friend in Eham,  sure there are its characters, but that's life, we all know or perhaps are  one of those characters.

Instead of whining and moaning, if you have that much time, then perhaps offer a hand to the people that run the site, I don't know it may be accepted.

AS for the 'trolls', there have always been trolls, we used to call them s**tstirrers same thing really.

Anyway that my view from half way round the world from the USA.

Keep up the good work, but do listen to constructive comments, and file the destructive ones.

BBW: I kind of figured you weren't American because of your accent.  ::) ;D

I certainly can understand what you're saying!! I left hamming for about 25 years and came back to a foreign country. It had trees and such, but the language had changed a bit. The kilocycles and condensers were all missing. LOL

Welcome back to the land of total enjoyment!

To be clear as I was the one that started this post, I have on several occasions offered direct assistance for the site.

For example, the issue of the difficulty of posting pictures is regularly cited. I found a free tool that integrates directly with this forum software to host pictures on an external website with one click. I provided the details to Mike. I got an "interesting" response but six months later, nothing has happened. Meanwhile people still regularly complain about the challenges of posting pictures here and how easy it is on QRZ.

I also note that Mark is a drive by moderator. He has gone MIA after reminding us we are guests, not customers. He fails to recognize that we are the product and the source of all revenue.

As Charlie points out, there are a lot of knowledgeable, generous people on this site. Without them eHam is nothing. Time for eHam management to wake up and become responsive. We have already lost too many good resources.

Go to your room! You just wait until your father gets home, you back-talking child!  ::) ;D LOL

I'm still working on it, in fact, I believe the solution just came in the mail today. (The mystery "builder".)

Left for around 30 years, that's a long time, came back with my Drake gear and it was all out of date, been back around 6 years now, but interestingly its still the same level of bickering going on, maybe its never ending?

Still a good hobby, even for an CW op like me, tried FTx but passed on that pretty quickly.

Take care over there, its a sailing race day today, so will be looking at that this arvo.
