I have had two 7300's and they are very popular on AM and sound very good (for an Icom many would say) to me and others, even with the hand mic.
Many AM operators break audio down to the typical ssb rig and everything else.
They are the only radios that hard limit the audio passband and often have ALC issues.
The vintage rigs can be opened up, the sdr's, class D and E rigs, broadcast transmitters and homebrew rigs can sound as good as you want.
Some people have done mods to ssb rigs to get them to sound very good, bypassing filters and so on.
I expect the 7610 sounds as good as the 7300 and while its not hifi, its clean and natural sounding unless the operator hoses it up with the wrong settings or the wrong microphone.

Also, if you ask for an audio report from 4 people on the air, you will likely get 8 very different opinions...

Agreed.

I assumed that my IC7610 would sound as good as my IC7600, but hearing it myself using the identical  mic and EQ it does not. I know what a stock radio should sound like more, or less and I also know what a radio with a bit of EQ’ing should sound like. That is what has prompted me to start this thread. My IC7610 is off.
