eBay Auction - TS-990s
« on: March 13, 2021, 07:05:02 AM »

Hi,

I am W7MGB.  I use a TS-590s and lately, I have been seriously considering a TS-890 or 990.  So...... of course I have been watching eBay for one.

The last two weeks, I have seen an identical auction for a TS-990s on eBay. 3 times now. Identical, except for the item location.  Ridiculously great deal on the radio, so that's the first indicator that something is fishy.  Yesterday, that radio popped up twice, one in CA, and one in MA.  The serial number both times was identical.  All the descriptors were identical and funky (one says the item color is RED).

One of the pics, it is a page telling you how to "complete" the purchase.  It's a pic because the automated robots on eBay that look for flag words on illegal activities can't really search a pic.  The picture tells you to contact the seller and how to send them payment for the radio.......

I'm about 99% certain this is a scam.   The final thing that really indicated that - it said shipping would be $21.  This is like a 60 - 75 pound item.  No way it can ship for $21.

Beware.....  I'd post item numbers on 'em, but I already reported them to eBay and they have been removed from the site already.

Go to QTH.COM. There is a guy selling a TS-890S for $3000.00. It is posted as a TS-8900S. It apparently belonged to his father who is now a SK. Located in San Fran area. The seller is not a ham

Have the seller send you a picture of the serial number on the back of the radio and have a local go inspect the radio. If the seller has a problem with this....run away.

Probably the same outfit that has put up an Elecraft K3s and some ships' chronometers.   They offer some expensive technologic items and one of their photos is one of how to actually 'buy' the item.   Of course it is a scam.
