Just like that faded , beat up  old corner bar,

If one hangs out at bars, they are a drunk and need help. Nah take that back, drink up and drink heavily.

1 - I was only musing why you would research the online activity of this site. I bet the owners don't even do that! ( but they should).
2 - The sign on the bar is pealing and hard to read. Most of the neon stopped working years ago. a few neon tubes are barely working, seemingly flashing a warning to stay away.
3 - Inside, the bar is dirty and dingy, the beer is flat, the glasses aren't clean, but nobody gives a damn.
4 - Just like that faded , beat up  old corner bar, this forum is not a good place to spend a lot of your time.
5 - The trolls are analogous to the nasty drunks at the dive bar.
6 - The bartender is too drunk and/or burned out to toss them.
7 - The pettiness and gloom will infect you."

1 - As I stated, I was curious. And you don't know for a fact that they aren't doing their best to get everything up and working. They're probably pulling out their hair to get it done and all some can do is complain. I, for one, am grateful that it's as good as it is. 'Some' is better than 'none'!

2 - I see none of that! All I see is a piece of home calling me in to enjoy whatever might be inside. The only mice in the walls are the few trolls that come out looking for a few nibbles. (To take or give.) Admittedly, the "owners" could put out a poison pellet or two, but I expect they have their reasons for not doing so. It's their decision, not ours.

3 - You've got to be out of your mind! I was brought up below the tracks and spent my childhood in homes, some causing me to learn, and oft times to enjoy, fisticuffs. I have, over the years, learned to appreciate the small favors given to me and to somehow show it in whichever way I could. (This being the way today!)

4 - And yet, here we both are, me in appreciation, you complaining. If we find we don't enjoy where we are, all we have to do is, as Judge Judy would say, "Move!"

5 - And if the bartender won't give the problem the boot, the patrons have the right to "ignore" it.

6 - None of us know that the bartender is even a drinker and perhaps there's a darned good reason why he doesn't take drastic action for the situation, whatever it might be.

7 - The only pettiness and gloom in my opinion is the soothsayers that show up on the forum, bringing in darkness, trying to shut out the light.

All that being said, I'm truly sorry if I'm reading you wrong, but I have a very good feeling about this forum and would love to see it become home to those of like mind. It's given an answer to several problems I've had electronically and, as far as I know, I've had no complaints about "dumb" questions. Having been brought up in a mostly negative childhood environment I appreciate it greatly. I try to see the sunshine beyond the ominous dark clouds. (In this forum they're called "trolls".)  ;D

Maybe it's the pandemic, or the lack of attention to detail here, but has been a noticeable decline .
The forum topics often drift off topic, then descend into bickering, fighting, name calling and all kinds of nonsense.
There are constant complaints about the functionality of the site.
Others are thwarted when trying to put up classifieds or articles.

I don't know why the owners of Eham have in essence walked away. Perhaps they have better and more profitable things to than to fix this site and babysit some maladjusted adults. I get it.
If that's the case, they may as well sell the site to a new operator.

I don't need to "move" because I'm not "parked" as you seem to be. If you are happy with what you get here, great!
However, I've seen MUCH better run sites/forums, so I am comparing the activity here to those, I guess. They also enjoy much higher visitor numbers.
Many have volunteered to help clean Eham up, including myself, once upon a time. As far as I know, the owners have never taken anyone up on their offers.

I used to come by to read something interesting and occasionally contribute.
Now I just check in for the daily buffoonery.

I didn't mean, or want, you to move.  I guess I am parked and I'm happy here too. As they say, "To each his own". We agree to agree. lol

This is the "miscellaneous" site.  I expect to find posts here from those with nothing useful to contribute to a specific topic, like "home brew" or "amplifiers".

Stoney:
"No disrespect, but I don't think either of you know how to run a successful website."

No disrespect taken, but you are absolutely correct, we don't know how to do it, but I for one, give it my support, not as much financially as I'd like perhaps, but however and whenever I can. I deeply appreciate being accepted here! It's just that simple.

BSU: You're making me wish I hadn't asked the question, but it made me wonder, as it did to someone earlier. I couldn't find the original thread so I asked it again. Sorry if it bothered you.

One thing you have right.  Not much activity here.  If you can figure out how to get more, that is when a website starts to flourish.

The software sucks in some areas, posting photos for one, needs a few more categories for another including one for non ham discussions. No anonymous names for another, ham call only for full privileges and maybe assigned names for non hams. No VPN log ins.

+1, Carl. I'm not into posting photos, although I have had times when I'd like to post a schematic for repair references. I go 100% on the rest, but what are "VPN" log ins?

But is that considering the taxation statement issued before or after the compound interest rate increase?  ::) Nobody seems to know. I bet I've searched for that answer without a result since last September.

Stoney, I'm only sorry that I can't repay for the solved problems I've had on this forum with solutions for their questions. I've been away from the hobby too long to be able to answer what might be called a fundamental question today.
I can at least try to be a ray of sunshine for the problem solvers, if and when.
Ya gotsta love it!! LOL

" I understand you have much knowledge."
No, Stoney, I don't. I quit high school in April of my junior year to join the army and with my background I fit right in with all of the discipline. Talk about a gung-ho snot!! I'm glad God had me shipped to Germany instead of Korea as we were scheduled. I probably would have  been one of the first casualties. (Stupid 17 year old!)

I've always enjoyed reading and tinkering which possibly helped in my "knowledge" and abilities. My 'upbringing' gave me my appreciating for everything, earned or otherwise.

"Homebrew" is one of my favorite threads here as it's what I've been interested in for at least 70 years.

"Amplifiers" ? I haven't run 600 watts input since my "vacation" 25 + years ago and, yes, it was homebrew and one of a kind, (from my knowledge at the time), to the chassis. Loved it!

At the moment I'm running about 2 watts to a 40 meter dipole. (And loving it too!) LOL

I'm doing more homebrewing than transmitting these days, I must admit.
