One thing you have right.  Not much activity here.  If you can figure out how to get more, that is when a website starts to flourish.

The software sucks in some areas, posting photos for one, needs a few more categories for another including one for non ham discussions. No anonymous names for another, ham call only for full privileges and maybe assigned names for non hams. No VPN log ins.

1 - I was only musing why you would research the online activity of this site. I bet the owners don't even do that! ( but they should).
2 - The sign on the bar is pealing and hard to read. Most of the neon stopped working years ago. a few neon tubes are barely working, seemingly flashing a warning to stay away.
3 - Inside, the bar is dirty and dingy, the beer is flat, the glasses aren't clean, but nobody gives a damn.
4 - Just like that faded , beat up  old corner bar, this forum is not a good place to spend a lot of your time.
5 - The trolls are analogous to the nasty drunks at the dive bar.
6 - The bartender is too drunk and/or burned out to toss them.
7 - The pettiness and gloom will infect you."

1 - As I stated, I was curious. And you don't know for a fact that they aren't doing their best to get everything up and working. They're probably pulling out their hair to get it done and all some can do is complain. I, for one, am grateful that it's as good as it is. 'Some' is better than 'none'!

2 - I see none of that! All I see is a piece of home calling me in to enjoy whatever might be inside. The only mice in the walls are the few trolls that come out looking for a few nibbles. (To take or give.) Admittedly, the "owners" could put out a poison pellet or two, but I expect they have their reasons for not doing so. It's their decision, not ours.

3 - You've got to be out of your mind! I was brought up below the tracks and spent my childhood in homes, some causing me to learn, and oft times to enjoy, fisticuffs. I have, over the years, learned to appreciate the small favors given to me and to somehow show it in whichever way I could. (This being the way today!)

4 - And yet, here we both are, me in appreciation, you complaining. If we find we don't enjoy where we are, all we have to do is, as Judge Judy would say, "Move!"

5 - And if the bartender won't give the problem the boot, the patrons have the right to "ignore" it.

6 - None of us know that the bartender is even a drinker and perhaps there's a darned good reason why he doesn't take drastic action for the situation, whatever it might be.

7 - The only pettiness and gloom in my opinion is the soothsayers that show up on the forum, bringing in darkness, trying to shut out the light.

All that being said, I'm truly sorry if I'm reading you wrong, but I have a very good feeling about this forum and would love to see it become home to those of like mind. It's given an answer to several problems I've had electronically and, as far as I know, I've had no complaints about "dumb" questions. Having been brought up in a mostly negative childhood environment I appreciate it greatly. I try to see the sunshine beyond the ominous dark clouds. (In this forum they're called "trolls".)  ;D

EU: Charlie, I think it was you who said that Eham was a way of life for you.
I'm beginning to see what you meant by that!  :o ::)"

I don't understand. I only meant that I find comfort in the forum because of the "brotherhood" feeling that seems to be gotten from the questions and their answers.

Of course there's the troll or two, but that's to be found in any group, be it professional, religious, neighborly, etc.

Come to think of it, perhaps you were referring to the TV show, "Cheers"? Then, I whole heartedly agree.

I visit the forum daily and find peace, humor and friendship. What more can one ask from life?

Am I wrong in some way? Have I struck a bad cord with someone without realizing it? Should I be continuing my search for a "home away from home"? I'm confused. The very last thing I desire is to be sowing seeds of discord in the group. That's not my intent here, but rather to give and receive help and humor when possible.

BIB: There are a few on the forum that want everything perfect, but at this point in life, I'm grateful for whatever comes my way, this group being at the top of my list.

I'm satisfied that I'm able to "join the group" and seemingly be accepted as one of "us".

Some folks born with a silver spoon in their mouth, find lots to complain about, but then there are always a few "Charlies" to keep the moral up as best as can be. I'm happy to say I'm one of them. Besides, I know what real "honky-tonks" are and to me this is "Cheers" with the ripped cushions, dirty glasses and all. I love it!! Bring on Billy Joel!! LOL

And, besides, who is Billy Joel? He must be "after my time". And how does this make you think of "piano Man"? Is that good or bad? (I actually want to know as I'm not familiar with his music.)

Where have you been? ( don't answer that!) Billy Joel's Piano man was on top of the charts for a while. How could it be that you never heard it on the radio?
It starts "Sing me a song, you're the piano man" No? Nothing? Never?
My analogy of Eham to an old depressing bar does kind of fit with Piano man.

C,

"Piano Man"  Song released on  November 2, 1973.

I know how you feel, "after my time"..... there's something called "wrap", where people produce something called 'music'.

I only know some 'artist" names like DMX , Jay-Z, Biggie Smalls, etc, but have never listened to any of it for more than 30 seconds before I get bored.
If you have trouble sleeping, try it .

EU and WIG: I guess that "type" of music isn't included in my list of favorites.

The music of the late 30's up to the mid 50's tickle my fancies.

It seems to me that sitting in the car with a lovely lady, under a full moon, listening to a beautiful, romantic love song would get better results than hearing a rapper with disgusting lyrics screaming his lungs out. (I must admit though, that Johnny Ray has to be excluded from the romantic part of my list. ::)) I married the girl of my dreams that way.

... Of course, there again, I could be wrong. Just a thought.

Yeah, but even though you are listening to a 1932 Atwater Kent radio, it is receiving modern stations playing modern pop music, right? -or are you trapped in the Twilight Zone?

I would love to have a 1932 AK!!As I remember, they made a great radio.

Since the bugs Beetles hit America and appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show {... Uh ... It was a - Oh never mind!} I kind of lost interest in "music" for a few years and devoted my ears to my signal tracing and other test equipment.

Call me "old fashioned", but in a very, very short span of time, you will be joining the group too. ;D

You might even check out my "signature". (I believe it's called that.) LOL

Charlie

On Edit: There are times when I wonder if I AM the Twilight Zone". LOL

Carl,
"Then you must like Elvis, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Bill Haley and scores of others from the late 40's to Bug"

Never cared for Elves, Fats could bang a terrific piano, thumbs down on lil Richard and Bill Haley was a one hit wonder in my eyes.

I liked the Big Band groups, some jazz and Billy Holiday knew how to sell a song. (Sad life story)

Much of the Doo-Wop was good listening!
(Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich will always be considered the best in their line of work!!)

... so, yes, I guess you could say that I'm just another old duffer that "don't know ship about "good" modern day music! LOL

I think a few on here are suffering from the Constipation Blues, arguably one of the worst songs of the 60's.

Carl; Is that the name of a song or a "general coverage" of the 60's style?
