Another week... another AMSAT-NA ANS Bulletin...
« on: March 13, 2021, 10:25:33 PM »

Well, another week has come and gone and another AMSAT-NA bulletin has been published. Guess what. Well, you don't really have to guess. There was not one mention of Fox-1E. It seems that this satellite (the third failed, space based repeater/transponder in a row for AMSAT-NA) has been swept under the rug and that the 'powers that be' are all 'keeping mum' about it while they hope that everyone just forgets about it. People haven't forgotten about it or the two that failed before it. People aren't going to forget about it.

It's a sad situation that nobody from AMSAT-NA will answer members' questions and concerns. This is not how functioning, credible organizations operate.

it's sad that only 2 out of 5 Fox satellites are just semi-operational (when not in eclipse) and the rest are completely unusable.  Meanwhile 8 out of 10 China Amsat (Camsat) XW/CAS satellites are operational (but admit that 3 of them are intermittent).

perhaps USA technology has given up some of its leadership position.

If someone cannot find anything positive to say about stories with these titles ...

* Spacewalk Addresses ARISS Equipment Issue
* Eight Amateur Radio Satellites to Deploy From ISS On March 14
* Delfi-N3xt Back To Life After 7 Years Of Silence
* First Contact Via UVSQ-Sat FM Transponder
* Another Achievement For Explorer Richard Garriott
* Renewal of Orbital Data Request for TLE Redistribution by AMSAT
* News Conference Details ARISS Efforts
* ARISS News
* Upcoming Satellite Operations
* Hamfests, Conventions, Maker Faires, and Other Events
* Satellite Shorts From All Over

... then someone might simply be a chronic complainer.

Optimists see: A glass half full.

Pessimists see: A glass half empty.

Chronic complainers see: A glass that is slightly chipped holding water that isn't cold enough, probably because it's tap water even though I asked for bottled, and wait, there's a smudge on the rim, too, which means the glass wasn't cleaned properly and now I'll probably end up with some kind of virus. Why do these things always happen to me?

I see AMSAT board members participate in the AMSAT-BB message system. Questions are asked - and answered - all the time by AMSAT board members - even from non-members. It is a great resource for serious satellite operators - and for those just getting in to this aspect of the hobby.

Nobody from AMSAT-NA is speaking anything about Fox-1E. It's been swept under the rug along with the last two failures.

Clint, the problem is not the people asking the question or commenting on the dearth of information about this exciting new satellite from Amsat-NA that is intended to test ideas for the GOLF sats.  The excitement has being building for a long time.

It got launched.  That made the news.  But now?  Dead silence. That's the problem.

Yea, I checked the BB for post-launch news.  Not a word.  I scrolled and I searched.  K5QXJ and N4MEY asked about RadFxSat2/Fox-1E status on the BB several weeks ago and nobody answered them with any update.

Is it a forbidden topic?  Does nobody care?  It makes me wonder if the launch was all just a dream and it didn't really happen.

I must have missed it: You found a question posed in AMSAT-BB on this project that went un-answered? Remember the date, so I can look it up?

Update report over on QRZ ... If you haven't been banned again by the moderators, you can read it there. Or have a buddy forward it to you.

Actually, there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors over on the QRZ thread. There’s some here as well.

The fact remains, Fox-1E and the two AMSAT-NA repeater/transponders before it have been failures. AMSAT-NA constantly tries to sweep these failures under the rug. It doesn’t take a ‘rocket scientist’ to see this trend of ‘smoke and mirrors’ from AMSAT-NA. It’s a shame, AMSAT-NA members and stakeholders deserve better.

So, on QRZ (but not on Amsat),  N0JY yesterday said "We are still troubleshooting, so the status really remains the same as my last report."

That is a status report!  Why can't Amsat at least say that on it's home page and/or in every weekly news bulletin?  As a test vehicle for the next generation GOLF satellites (controller and memory boards), AO-109 is so important that it's the least that Amsat can do!

Give us some hope that troubleshooting activities are still ongoing.  Silence never makes anyone hopeful.
