SDRuno w IC-718, won't RF Mute on TX
« on: March 21, 2021, 11:29:26 AM »

How do I get SDRUno to automatically go into [RF MUTE] when I PTT to TX my IC-718.

I am running an SDRPlay RSPdx using SDRuno software, and OmniRig controlling and IC-718. Every function seems to be working perfectly except when I TX with the IC-718, the audio of the RSPdx does not shut off through the PC speakers(SDRUno), which leads to feedback getting into the 718 microphone. Of course, the SDRuno panadapter/waterfall shows my tx signal (very strong) due to some crossover I assume. Although I can live with the visual of my TX on the PC screen, I can not live with the audio feedback. When I type "T", the [RF Mute] will activate on the SDRuno RX Control, but that is no way to operate . . . . having to press "T" every TX. Something should trigger the "T" [RF MUTE] function automatically when I transmit with the IC-718.

I have been in contact with Steve Brightman,KI5ENW, from SDRPlay, and he stated that I need to make sure I have the right .INI file and use the OMniRig client to see if that function is supported. Admittedly, I don't know what any of that jargin means. I am an ME, not an EE, so I need someone to "spell it out" for me. Other issues, Steve has been wonderful help, but he threw me a curve ball on this one.

I have the most recent .INI list downloaded from OmniRig, but don't know what to do with it or how to tell SDRUno to look at it to activate that function, if that is even needed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My whole entire set up is based on the RSPdx and IC-718 working together, and being able to use the audio from the RSPds and not the rig, but being able to TX through the IC-718. Kind of a real bummer that I have hit this snag.

Use the amplifier key line from the radio to drive a small relay. Connect the computer speaker through the relay contacts.

How are you protecting the front end of the RSPDX when transmitting? I use one with a home made active antenna and drop the supply to the antenna on transmit. The circuit for that is straightforward and uses the amp key line. I don’t use the SDR to listen to stations I am in QSO with.

I run all sorts of sdr receivers and trancevers with high power transmitters and always put a relay close to the sdr that shorts the antenna to ground and opens up the audio and puts it to ground, powered by a wall wart.
That is in addition to the main high power T/R relay.
I have not lost one yet.
