VOA Phillipines
« on: March 21, 2021, 01:08:40 PM »

Is anyone aware of any links to information about the VOA PI transmitter site that was active in the early 60's?  Was on a radar site on the other side of the fence and would just like to take a trip back in time. I remember a Megawatt on 1100kc.
Thanks David w7cxc

Of course it's a bit before my time since I didn't get into SWL until the 1980s but this site was pretty interesting about the history of the VOA in the Philippines going back to WWII times and the 50s and 60s. Quite interesting and worth the read. There's quite a bit of background information on Google about US sponsored broadcasting in the Philippines as a counter influence to other large nations in the region. Too bad that our last several administrations haven't kept up with promoting information awareness and let the VOA wither on the vine.                     https://www.radioheritage.com/voa-in-the-philippines/

SUN.....thanks a bunch. Yes I was at the Poro Point location.  One could put on a pair of headphones , stick one wire in the ground and hold the other in between two fingers and listen to the Megawatt any time it was on. Wonder what the RF exposure was? Still here though. If you look up Wallace air station there are several photos showing the two radar domes  (height finder 5MW pk and search 1 Mw pk) with the VOA antenna farm to the East. The 4 tall towers were for the 1MW transmitter. They generated their own power too. Ah the good old days. Thanks again. David
